I found some nice brand new rear tires I want, but the size is 265/40/18. Now, I found the Marauder Tire Matrix table, and saw that 265's were questionable. Does anyone have this size on their stock rear rims? And, does it matter if the aspect ratio is lower than what stock is? What does that mean? (Stock on the rear is 55 right?)

They will look too small on the back

Because of the aspect ratio correct? The higher the number, the thicker the side wall is right?

Anything less than a 28" tall tire looks wrong.
What you described is 26.34" tall.

How could I tell that though by the sizing of the tire Zack?

I agree with Zack. The overall height of the stock 245/55-18 is 28.5". The overall height of the 265/40-18 is 26.4" The overall height of our fronts, 235/50-18, is 27.2". The front tires will look larger than the rear tires.

265/40-18
The first number is the width of the tread in millimeters - 265
The second number is the aspect ratio, in other words, the height of the sidewall in relation to the width or the percent of the width the height is - 265mm divided by 40 (multiply 265 by .40).
Last is the height of the rim in inches - 18"

By calculating the sidewall height and considering it exists on both the top and bottom of the 18" rim, you can calculate the overall height of the tire.

265 divided by 40% = 106mm sidewall. To change to inches divide by 25.4 (mm per inch)
106 divided by 25.4 = 4.17....
18" + 4.2 on top and 4.2 on the bottom = ~26.4" overall
More specifically, like Zack stated 26.34" if you don't round it up like I.

J

So what size can we use if we want to get away from BFG, or if BFG should eventually decide it's not worth making the 245/55-18s anymore? What size would maintain the proper diameter, while still fitting the wheel width and not upsetting the traction control?

I checked this out a few weeks ago when all the talk about that tires-easy.com site was happening here. I figured out (at least for me and for the time being) that i can fit a 255/55/18 on the back. It will throw off the speedo like 0.8 MPH faster...and pricewise they go from like $80 bucks at tires-easy.com or from around $95 at tire-rack.com. That's prolly what im going to end up doing if the stock BFGs arent under $100 like they always were when i bought them.

I am running stock size KDW2s on front and 255/55 KDW2s on rear. Speedo error is negligible for my purposes. Traction control is happy with the combination. When I need tires again, I am going to investigate light truck/suv tires to see if I can find a less expensive alternative. 600 bucks for four tires hurts a bit.

So, does anyone know of people on here that use/have used 265? If not, looks like I'm going with 255's.
