just wondering what everyone's sixty foot times look like. in four passes, i've yet to break 2.40. my car is bone stock. I've yielded my best times torque-braking the car to about 1900 rpm, then flooring it immediately. i generally get a little wheelspin, but nothing major. notably, i seem to get better 60' times with a little wheelspin off the line. i have a best e.t. of 15.19 and would love to get this car a 14 second timeslip bone stock. Anyway, are my 60' times normal for this car or do i just suck at driving?

IMHO, 15.19 in the conditions you describe, from a bone stock MM is a good start.

well, i did have one mod. i iced down the intake manifold and MAF before the 15.19 pass.

I just had mine out and at about 80 deg. and 80% humidity done 2.5's
with 5000 on the clock. I'm only doing 10.5's in the 1/8 as oppose to the low 10's with 40 deg temps.

thanks for the replies. has anyone tried heating up the tires? i know the general rule of thumb is you dont heat up street tires, but the waterbox looks more and more tempting each time i drive by it.

If you can break'em loose than it might help you but it can also hurt as you might over heat them and then get no traction as the rubber melts and you slip and slide on it. But go and experiment as thats the only way you can find out if it works or not.

notacop - Not a bad time for a stock Marauder.

Not a bad time?
Hell thats a great time @90f!
Best i got was 15.36 at 86f. I didn't ice the intake but I did let it sit with the hood open for about an hour.
My 60ft on that pass was a 2.37.
You might want to try something that will give you a little wheel spin off the line.Believe it of not it may help get the engine in the power band a little sooner, kind of a free high stall converter, maybe. How about about 44lbs in the rear tires?

My best is 2.381. Launched at about 2000 rpm.

I'd be interested in hearing about 60' times for MMs with 4.10 gears & converter.
My best is 1.91 but it will cut 1.9x consistently.
Remember that reaction time doesn't matter.

Notacop, how many miles do you have on her, these things
don't seem to really cook until 4k or so.

Guys,
Here are some general guidelines regarding getting your best launch.
Lower your tire pressure: High tire pressure is good for doing easy burnouts on the street but it does nothing for your launches at the track. I run 24# in the rears with my 255/50-16 size. Experiment to see what works best for you. Try 20#, try 25#...this is part of the fun!
Heat up the tires: Even street tires will benefit by a good burnout - just don't overdo it. You will need to determine how much burnout works best for your tires. I run street tires at the track (Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s) and I do a burnout into third gear. That may be too much for your tires, like I said, you need to experiment. Most tires will benefit from a burnout, believe me. Warm/hot rubber grips more than cold rubber.
Raise the RPMs: A higher stall torque converter will enable you to raise the RPMs to a point where you're more into your powerband. If you don't have a high-stall converter, you can still power brake (one foot on the gas, one on the brake) and raise your RPMs to a point where you're not just starting from your ~750 idle speed.

hey thanks for all the replies guys. i guess i will try a burnout next time at the track. can anyone give me some suggestions as for how long to hold the burnout? by the way, my car just clicked off 4k miles last night. oh and as for icing down the intake manifold, i went from a 15.34 not icing to a 15.19 when icing for about 40 mins. on both runs the 60' times were nearly identical. so if youre looking for that extra tenth...

I am racing this Fri night, it has already gone a 14.60 but I know it has more in it...we will see Fri night. Idon't remember the short time but I will post it Fri night. The only changes I did from the 14.60 run was I put underdrive pulleys on and I had Dennis R put his new and improved program on my chip....we will see.

No one can give you advice as to how long to do your burnout unless they are running the same tire as you. Some of this stuff you're going to have to find out on your own. ;)
As I said before, that's the fun of it. Then you can be the one lending advice based on your experiences.
As for icing down the engine, it does work, as you pointed out. I haven't yet taken ice to the track though. I kinda want to run the car as it is on the street - everything hooked up, street tires and all. That way I can say it does an honest xx.xx @ xx.x in the quarter-mile and I can reproduce that number on the street all day long. :)

ok, for everyone running the stock tires on the mm, have you heated them up before running the 1/4? if so, how long did you hold the burnout? also one last question: what's the lowest pressure you can safely run for about 10 miles on the street? i have to drive to get to the strip (about 55mph max)

i'm also gonna drop the front sway bar before going to the strip on fri. will post times fri night/ sat a.m.
