Got your attention, didn't I? I am contemplating getting a Motorcraft bra for my DTR. It's either that or a front end paint job. I got the car from a dealer in Ft. Collins Colorado and the owner lived in Wyoming. There are serious bug splat "scars" on the bumper cover and they won't wet-sand out.

My problem is that Big Red stays outdoors and I'm wondering how a bra is gonna hold up....Please don't tell me about dust chafing, my front end is toast as it is right now. Are they easy enough to take on and off when the sun comes out or do you leave it on no matter what? Man I hate that I even have to ask this. I need a 6 car garage wth a house attached. :bigcry:

Perhaps I've only seen ill fitting bras etc. (for the cars)
But every car I've seen that has run a bra for extended periods of time, there are fine scratches in the paint all along point where the trailing edge of the bra contacts the car. As such, I'd rather have bug splats etc than to have that happen to the paint.

As for the bra getting wet... the manufacturer will have requirements on how you have to handle that. Whether it is remove it to dry or leave it in place.

Take a look at the clear bra at www.xpel.com

I have one on my MM and one on my daughter's RX8.

Junior, I second the suggestion by FastBlackMerc. If you can, go for a new paint job on the front end then put the X-pel material on. All the pre-cut pieces for the MM will run over $300, probably $400 if you get the headlight/foglight protectors, but if you want good protection, that won't do any damage itself, while retaining a good appearance, and is completely removable, this is the way to go. If there is not an installer near you, then you can probably do a reasonable job of it yourself by practicing a little and getting some coaching from them. I bought 2" and 4" roll material and practiced by using that on the wheel wells, threshold plates, etc., and used some of the scrap from the pre-cuts on the A-pillars, and around the hood and grill pieces. Check out the demo video on their homepage showing the gravel protection, at X-pel.com or XPEL Technologies Corp.
Caution: if you do buy from them, they have a front bumper "kit" for either a front tag frame or without one, make sure you specify which one you need.:P

I can empathize with you on the garage situation, two or three vehicles short on garage/shop space, and no doubt we are not alone.:(

I will never forget a guy I knew in High School was a stereo nut. Worked his way up to manager of a high volume stereo store called Sound Track, they spoofed on Star Trek.

He bought a new burgundy 911 and put on a factory bra. He kept it immaculate. It go wet and photographed on the paint. The front end had to be repainted.

He was a tall, good looking, smart and driven guy. He got:bigcry: Lou Gherics and be came very bitter.

A sad story.

Thanks for the replys guys, I knew this thread may go a little off topic. That sounds like a good idea Hotrod, but I was trying to avoid the repainting. I guess that gives me a good excuse to get a rear spoiler. All I have to do is tell my wife "Since I have to paint it anyways, and I wanted a spoiler and it will need painting too..."

Will these mods never end?

Hey, that rationale worked for me....course my wife had seen the spoilers on other MMs at meets and wanted one anyhow.... heehee It actually saves you a ittle bit of money to have it done while other paint work is being done.

I concur as others have said " after a period of time the bra will chafe the paint".:(

As a person who has spent many years working in a body shop I have seen a lot of paint damage due to a bra. If you are going to have to paint might as well go braless.

Other than being extremely ugly and never fitting well, bras ruin your paint. They shouldn't exist for cars.
