I usually not to into fords, but i do like the marauder quiete a bit. but the low-end torque issue is kinda of disappointing. i mean, not to rag on all the marauder owners here. but i believe that in the mid 80 to mid 90s the caprice 4 door sedans with 305s and there ford rivals with 302s could spin the tires from a dead stop with out doing a break stand. most with 3.08 gears or worse. now granted the marauder is 100 times better still. i still have dreams about putting a 230hp 300.lb 305 tpi in a caprice. with 3.73 gears and all.

Such is the nature of DOHC motors....no torque down low... Not a problem once a stall convertor gets replaced.

logan, nicely run forum first off. secondly did you everdecide on a torque converter? just wondering what was gonna work best for you guys. it seem that a 3,000 stall with 3.73's is the most popular choice for us bowties. get these guys fired up would you? the shootout is coming up and only 1 MM so far. we're looking for the 1st 9 second SS, surely you guys want to see a 10 or 11 second MM. If I win the lottery I'll bring a 10sec MM. hehe. Shouldn't be hard, drop compression, 3300 stall with 4.11s, x303 cam, 12lb supercharged...msd, blaster ss, supersonic plugs...

I haven't gotten one yet, but I'm thinking right around 3000 rpm...

Maybe, I haven't seen a full dyno chart on a MM yet to guess really.

Not only is it the nature of DOHC motors but the 305 only makes power down low.
The 305 acts almost like stroker motor. Very small bores.
They make no power above 4800-5000 rpms.
My dads '88 Caprice will spin the tires with a 2.56 gear, but it's 0-60 time is 10.5 seconds.
My IROC (305)with TPI has so much torque that I can put it in 5th at 25mph.
Take my foot off the gas and it will drive down the road at idle (650rpms) indefinitely!!
Thats torque.
