View Full Version : Need advice on Marauder purchase
I'm considering buying a 2003 Marauder with 69,800 miles on it. Seller has already put many mods on car ($11,000 worth he says), all professionally installed by Rheinhart. He's asking $17k. Questions: Is it a good idea to buy one with this many miles on it? is that a fair price? I know there are other Marauders for sale at same or lower price, with fewer miles, but also fewer mods.
What should I watch out for to make sure it's in good shape? Any advice on mechanic to check it out? Seller is in Mt. Dora. By the way, I think, maybe, the seller is Marauder57. That member had a blue '03 and listed many, if not all, of the same mods as the seller. Both are also from Mt Dora. Marauder57's last post here was back in early 2006, I think. It looks like he just quit this forum.
Seller lists the following:
$11K in Performance Upgrades, Ford Racing 4.10 Gears, 180 Degree Thermostat, Reinhart Performance Tune Flash, Addco Rear Sway Bar, Denso Spark Plugs, Ceramic Manifolds Header, COBRA Dual Exhaust X Pipe, STEEDA Under drive Pulleys, KVR Drilled Brake Rotors, KVR Ceramic Brake Pads, STALLION PI Torque Converter, Reinhart Transmission Upgrade 1.5 Bulletproofed NA, Rear Engine Cooling Kit, Metal Matrix Drive shaft, Zack Mack Rear Upper and Lower control arms, Paul’s High Performance Cold Air Intake, Dyno 292 RWHP (350 HP) Dyno 301 RWT (360 T), All professionally installed by Dennis Reinhart (Marauder Specialist), SOUND SYSTEM UPGRADES, SONY XPLODE CDX-M9905X – FM/AM/CD/MP3 W/Remote, Factory Sub Woofer, Infinity Speakers 6x8 6802CF on all 4 corners

That seems a little high on the price with those miles. Somewhere around $12k-$15k would be a fair offering.
Unless of course the car is blue, then hes asking a fair price because of how rare they are.
Yes, it is blue. Thank you for responding.

Paul,
Mercury only built 328 blue Marauders, so if you get it, you'll have one of the really rare ones.

Would you like an OASIS report for this vehicle? PM me the VIN.
I have never met or spoken to Marauder57 although we live less than 100 miles from each other. But a Blue is hard to come by as you probably well know. Is the car worth having? - Yes! Is the price right? Only you can answer that. It (the car) certainly has alot going for it. Florida car, Reinhart build-up, Blue, handling and sound upgrades, and MM.net to back you up. You better think about this pretty hard, bro.
Do you live in Florida?
Best luck in your endeavors,
JMan
Yes, I'm in Longwood. You'll hate me though - if I get the car it will be my daily driver.

Nah, I couldn't think of a much better daily than that! The traffic around Longwood - now that's not exactly ideal.
Best luck,
J

A lot of us use ours as daily drivers, I do. I just drove to work in mine in the middle of a Nor-Easter storm.
I would buy a blue one in a heart beat if I didn't already have a black one.

Mine WAS a daily driver. I love driving the car but Id rather perserve it so I can enjoy it longer.
I dont plan on getting rid of this car, Ill do whatever it takes to keep it looking and running new.

PS - For a BLUE....with those Mods.....the price is about spot on ;)
I'm now pretty sure the seller used to be a member (Marauder57) who stopped posting in eary 2006. Is it common for an enthusiast to suddenly stop after they've finished their mods? I'm also curious why he isn't advertising the car for sale on this site. You would think MM.net would be the place he would get the most $ return from (blue book value doesn't care about the cost of mods or rarity of the blue paint).
I must say, when considering a used car, it is comforting to be able to read the posts made by an owner when their baby was their favorite toy, fresh and new, one which they have no intention of parting with. You learn so much more about the car's history then you could ever pick up from a carfax and a pre-purchase inspection.
Many thanks to RoyLPita for the Oasis report - that was even more informative (and ties to gether with Marauder57's posts back in the day).

Well it's like this, if you wanted my blue MM, you'd have to have a heck of a lot more money than he is asking for. And i have very few mods compared to that list.

Well, yes it IS common for an enthusiast to quit and sell. I've done it many times. While we, here, at mm.net cannot conceive of it, perhaps he just didn't 'love' the Marauder. I've built many customs and once they get to a certain point, I just get bored and sell 'em. Besides, maybe life changed and there's otehr needs or interests now. It's not uncommon at all.

Yet another reason to buy it. That Reinhart Art Carr tranny will last and last especially on an NA car. 69K is nothing. Futher than this community, the car is part mustang, part town car, part grand marquis. Keeping it running well is not exactly difficult nor are the parts tough to find.

Bud, sht!t or get off the potty before one of us buys it!!!!!
Congratulations in advance on your purchase (since you'd be stupid not to). We'll see you at the next meet!

I'd say buy it. Most likely its been well maintained. I owned a 00 ZX3 before my 04 DTR. It was my baby. I did a lot of modding to it, but it was never raced or beat hard. Someone got a sweet car for less than it was worth. My 04 is also my daily driver and she too went through the nor'easter this morning and will again tonight.

Ditto on that. ^^^^ $17K wouldn't even cover the sentimental value or the pain and suffering. :D IMHO, I think it's a very good price.
