View Full Version : Help 4.10 installation
I was supposed to have all of the Reinhart stage-1 installation done all at once. The garage I used only put in the plugs, stat & chip. After sitting for 3 days (2 weeks ago) I needed the car. He said he would do it this past week but it sat for 4 days. On day 4 he said there were not enough shims (sp?) in the kit i got from Denise and said he had to order them. I couldn't reach Denise and since it wasn't done and I had lost faith in the garage to do a good job I took the car back. It is running noticably better with the plug, stat & chip. Faster & not as much shifting but the speedo is off and it's kind of sucks doing long runs on I95 without nowing how fast your going. The chip is set for a 4.10 rear.
1. Help does anyone out there know of a good shop in the Philadelphia or South Jersey area?
2. Can I damage the car by running it without the 4.10 installed?
3. When I put the petal to the metal is it supposed to rev all the up to the red line. It feels great but I don't want blow the motor.
4. Does the 4.10 install need more shim (sp?) then come in the kit from ford motorsports?
Thanks for any advice you can give me

The only question I can help you with is #2; no, you won't hurt the car, but you'll hurt your wallet getting speeding tickets unless you get the speedo corrected... :D

JET: We will get you squared away in Marlton, NJ on Saturday 6/21. I know of garages that will do the work. Not far from CC Phila.

NEW QUESTIONS: does the MM come standard with a K&N air filter OR would adding one (which one?) improve performance?
also, can anyone tell me FOR SURE that adding a chip and a 4.10 REAR AXLE will not adversely affect drivability (too high rpms at highway speeds or other problems)...
how about top ten BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK PURE PERFORMANCE MODS...???
anyone want to buy a 4.6L MM engine with 3,000 miles on it so I can put the 5.4L that BELONGS IN THE CAR???

To answer your questions.
The K&N has been shown that is dowesn't add anything to performance over the stok filter.
I can tell you FOR CERTAIN that the Chip and gears wake this car up, and doesn't effect driveability.
Best bang for buck? Chip and gears.
IF you can get a 5.4 lt Motor into the car, I'd say go for it. I would love to see it. I did some research on this, and the cost of the enginering would put it well over 20K, and I don't have that kind of green.
As for you moms Roadmaster, yeah, it would take the marauder in 0-30, but at the end of 1/4 mile, she would be looking at your tail lights. This 4.6 DOHC motor is a rever, it performance kicks it at 30+.
Poser, check out this thread on 4.10's and driveability.

All trolls aside....don't waste 40 some dollars on a filter from K&N, the ENTIRE kit will be available this summer!
As far as 4:10 install, my guy used NO shims, I still have them in the box. If you want them, I'll send them to you N/C.
PM me if so.

The shims that come with the gears are the pinion shims, about 2 1/2" in Dia.
Most installers use the stock shim and reuse the pinion bearing if the car has low miles.Believe it or not FRPP gears almost always use the stock pinion depth, the gears are machined very well.
Now the shims that almost always need to be changed are the carrier shims.these are about 3 1/2" in dia. and for the most part are purchase from the dealer. There are aftermarket parts too,but most dealers do stock quite a few.
As for the install taking more than 2 days?Somehting is going on here.
It was sugested to go someplace else, thats a good idea.
