View Full Version : WOT and Redline

Since I had my chip installed, and the engine revs higher before shifting, I have a question about the redline. When I start out and push the car at WOT, it will usually go a little past the redline, maybe as high as 6500 RPM before I get a hard shift into second. This doesn't take long, and the car is only above the red line for a second or two before shifting. Since I usually drive conservatively, and rarely push the car this hard, is there any danger in this? Or, should I have the chip or something else adjusted to keep it from ever going above the redline? Thanks, auto gurus.

Ross:

You may want to check with your chip programmer and ask where they set the rev limiter. I believe with Dennis's chips and FordChip's programming, the limiter is set a little higher than stock, but not high enough to be a danger. The factory limits are almost always set very conservatively. As with almost anything in life, constant running at an extreme is not a good thing, but just hitting it once in a while should not be a major concern. If you were actually hitting the rev limiter, you'd feel the car flatten out, like it has no more to give...

Thanks, Overlord. BTW, what is your Cycled Acoustics intake tube mod?
