View Full Version : Heated Seats - Pics?
Hello all,
As you may have seen in other threads, I've just picked up a Canadian 03 Marauder - unfortunately, it has no heated seats, and I'm spoiled... I want my bun warmers! So, to that end, I've ordered a kit online:
http://www.heatedseatkits.com/heatedseatkits/iheat3/index.html
I've poked through the archives, and found the links to 2vmodular's install at CVN, though I'm wondering if anyone has more info about the install in a Marauder, especially with the airbags in the seats?
Also, does anyone have pics of the FACTORY heated seat switches? I'd be inclined to purchase these and try and make the install look as stock as possible....
And, from what I've read, the harness will not be present on my car - if this is the case, any suggestions on where to grab the power?
Cheers,
Colin

I have heated in an early '03A put in aftermarket by Ford switch is on the lower part of the seat no big deal. I also have remote start which makes it even nicer.

I'm working on adding the factory heated seats to my '03 300A. Aftermarket is probably a smarter way to go. I found a set of seats awhile back.
The Ford tech who does most interior work at Team Ford told me to swap the pads and all instead of just the heaters. The adhesive will make it impossible to re-install them on a different set of pads. Why not change the whole seat assemblies? 2 reasons, first the frames are rusty (I believe the sunroof was left open on the car they came from) and second, they don't have the map pockets. If the frames weren't rusty, I would just put the covers from my seats on the heated ones.
The wiring harness which is installed in the seats is different for heated vs non-heated seats, so that has to be swapped. More reason for swapping the whole seat assembly, but then again there is the rust.
The wiring harness which connects to the seats is also different, not just different pinouts or additional connectors but totally different types of connectors. I cut the under-seat wiring out of a parts car which was originally equipped with heated seats. I'll be splicing that into the wiring harness for an almost OEM type installation.
The door panels were hard to find, but I finally located a set. But it also requires the wiring harness to be cut out of the doors so they can be connected to the seats.
Power comes from 3 different locations for the OEM heated seats. One comes from the main fuse box next to the battery and uses a circuit which is dedicated to the heated seats. Gotta have a pin to add in to the fuse box to connect to this unused terminal (I got one out of the fuse box I removed from a parts car). Two others come from the fuse box under the dash and connect to circuits used by other devices, so they're easy to splice into.
This is just a bunch of parts, diagrams, and information currently as I haven't really done the installation yet. I personally don't care for them, but the wife likes them and complains about it when we go places in my car instead of hers. 660 hp or stock? She likes heated seats.

Heated seats are the only thing I really wish I had in my 2003 - 300A.
I too wanted to do an OEM retrofit, but after reading Brian's post I am NOT going to attempt an OEM set-up.
BTW: With 660HP on tap my seats would need to be COOLED!!!
Plus, I would need a sharp knife to cut loose the wedge of seat cover material caught up in my butt cheeks after each ride!:D

Hey Colin;
I have a 300b that I just put heated seats in. Had the Ford/Lincoln Mercury dealer put them in. I did not want to hassle with the seat covers, wiring and potentially launching an airbag into my face:(
Here are a couple of pictures of the switches.

Not sure where they got the power for the warmers from. If it warms up this weekend I will try to get more pictures of under the seat.

Very nice indeed. I'm thinking of adding them to the front seat backs and the rear rear bottoms.

I believe the OEM heated seats have heaters in the lumbar area of the seat backs. Good idea to add them to the rear seat, though.
Thanks for the pics - the install looks good!

I was wondering about that too, is it just the lower cushion that is heated or the seat back or both? I don't know why they didn't use the Lincoln Towncar system. A friend has a 98 Towncar with 5 levels of heat for both the seat cushion and the seat back. But they don't auto turn off.

I have the OEM heated seat set-up. I don't think the heat gets to the lumbar area either. It's just a BUN warmer. Initially, I didn't really think the heated seats was a big deal .... but it has come in handy during some of the cold snaps that we've had the past couple years. Now I am just spoiled.

Why Not just heat the seat yourself, its fun and easy, but it requires ruffage and lots of beer......................... :lol:

This is exactly what I want! That looks fantastic. Do all Ford dealers do this? How much did it cost approx.? I'm in Canada, but what about your cost in US dollars?

Hi Rockettman;
My local Ford-LM dealer did the install. It was about $500 USD. Well worth it living in Minnesota.
I think you could find someone, (car stereo installer, wind tint or upolsterer type) that would do it cheaper. I did not want the hassle of an airbag going off in my face..

I didn't think that I needed or wanted heated seats. But I will say that they have been REALLY nice for the past couple days. :D
Ditto, that IS a beautiful setup, and if I might impose, could you take some photos of where and how the wires from the switches run, how the wires for the heated seats run and anything that would help a tech replicate the job. I'm hoping a dealership near me can do a very similar setup. And is there anything specific to ask for?
