With Lidios race fuel tune and a CAI you will be able to take a few of the 4.6 SOHC Mustang GT's in the 1320 too. Congrats and enjoy.

Ok Gentlemen, My Marauder is puff'n smoke on startup.. 32 K on it now. Never been raced & always the best of care including Mobil 1 every 3 K or 3 months. My Ford store did a dye check in the oil & didn't find any oil on the plugs. There is no TSB in Canada for this prevailent problem in the 300 A series. Does anyone have a valve seal/ guide warranty claim either north or south of the border? My Marauder runs real strong otherwise... Reinhart Vortech System installed at 25K. PLease call me collect 1 705 264 9018 & ask for Ken.

Hmmmm.....

Perhaps it's the dreaded valve stem seal issue on the driver's side head?

Or not.

Ken, you may want to stat your own thread to get more feedback.

My MM is daily driven (about 30 miles round trip of stop'n'go with about 50%highway speed travel), and my mpg is pretty much the same before and after, averaging between 19-20mpg, from 20-21mpg (depending on how much I get on it)... It may have decreased slightly, but it's SOOOO worth it :burnout:

Hey superford, which brand gears did you go with? Because I had heard the cheaper ones would cause a louder whine or sound while on the highway. Just wondering which ones you got, and if youve heard it different?

...daily driver and scared rpms will always be to high and gas mileage will go to nothing....still undecidedgmtech, be "undecided" no longer. Remember, this car is not a '60s era musclecar with 14" or 15" wheels and a 3-speed transmission. Having overdrive and 18" wheels makes a big difference.

The Blackbird has 4.10s and a Trilogy, and we can still get 21 MPG on the highway at 75 MPH with a week's worth of vacation luggage in the trunk. Unless you regularly rack up big miles on the highway at very high speed, 4.10s are the perfect compromise between improved launch and decent gas mileage.

Just curious, who did the gear change?
transmission doctor in apple valley ,i know the guys there ,and i went with motive gear because i heard the ford motor sport gears are having premature failure and are now made by some company who is making them alot cheaper ,i have very little noise on acceleration and decel and none on the freeway

Try crownvic.net. Some of those guys with 2.73s would love to have 3.55s.

I got mine installed last week and I love the change, althought my gas mileage is not so good now. My next upgrade would be pulleys! Anybody knows which kind to get?

Glad to hear these kinds of good words for the 4.10's. Makes me wish April would be here even sooner. I am heading out to see Lidio in mid-April for 4.10's, rear end girdle, and install of some suspension parts I will have with me. Then get some of his tuning expertise to update my XCal2 for the change.

As a side note, I, too had heard about issues with the FRPP gears and them having a a bad batch or something. I know these are the only gears that Lidio recommends and what I will be going with, just hope to have no problems. Also, I think the Motive gears are or used to be pretty good. They used to be the only recommended gear to use on a daily driven F-Body and what I used in my '91 Z28.

I've been wrestling with whether to get the 4.10 or not. I need the gas mileage right now since I have a long commute. But I've heard good things about the power on the luanch with the 4.10. Seems the one thing everyone aggrees that this car lacked out of the factory.

I might save up for the Torque Converter first though and then get the 4.10 after that.

Must be nice to take off when you want to blow the doors off of someone beside you at the stop light.

superford3, Where did you get the gears and tune? Who did the install? What kind of tuner?

Gears are not something a backyard mechanic can install. It's not just setting lash, you have to worry about where the contact pattern is on the gears. There's a very large chance if you aren't experienced setting up gears that they will be noisy.

4;10's without a tune to correct the trans shifts and speedo calibration,
Will not realize any gains.
I drove on 4:10's (no retune) for several weeks, my mind was telling me the car was faster(felt lighter).
I was surprised to learn the gains are not realized, without the tune.
If I was to "do over",I would have saved the 500.oo on the 4:10's.
The tire shreading torque, produced by the most popular blower choice, makes the higher gear ratio change, not needed.

I got my 4.10s in last week, and I love 'em. I went with 4.10s, a 3000 stall converter, and a tune. It's like I came home with a totally different car.

:banana2:

Like Bradley said, though, I probably wouldn't go with 4.10s if I had forced induction. I can get plenty of wheelspin without a blower.

ya I did not think it was any night and day difference...all though i need the re:tune.Don't get me wrong I would like the the blower now all though this will have to pass for now....also I have a early build 300a with 40,000 miles---guess what the axles looked like?...I figured I should deal with this now instead of on the road.
