By the way, does anyone know where this bolt is supposed to go? I found it caught in the wiring harness just above the left front wheel well (underneath where the stock airbox used to be). Wondering if it needs to be put back in, or if it's just an "extra"? Bolt head is 9/16".

Check under the hood to see if there are any empty holes. Might just be an extra one from the factory.

Looks like a head bolt. Had any engine work done?

I agree, it absolutely looks like a head bolt. You are lucky it did not fall out when driving and puncture a tire.

Yep, looks like a head bolt. Have you gotten any head lately?

Repair history from seller (I just bought car Feb 21st @69,810 miles) shows no head work, just the following possibilities:

master cylinder replaced 04/2006 @68,758 (car pretty much sat in his garage thereafter)
idler pulley and serpentine belt replaced 01/2006 @64,314 miles
harmonic balancer, front crank seal, and rear main seal replaced 02/2004 @14,849 milesI don't think any of the performance mods involved taking off the heads. I think the harmonic balancer and seals would have required pulling the heads, but that was so damn long ago... I'll check the heads for empty bolt holes - but if empty we should have experienced a problem in the last 55,000 miles!

C.FL. L-M did that work - maybe they lost a bolt, couldn't find it, gave up and pulled another from the parts department?

As you said, damn lucky that bolt didn't drop into the tire at 80+MPH.

Check to see if you're missing a bolt to hold the A/C compressor in place...

Those bolts are white with studs on the end.

Seller tells me he had a head replaced at a dealership in Jacksonville due to an exhaust leak, so this must be where the extra bolt came from. Hopefully the dealer really was just lazy and put in a replacement without looking for/finding the one they dropped. Oh well, taking the car in for an alignment tomorrow, will have it checked out.
