I would like to make some small carbon fiber parts for a few projects I had in mind, I could easily make these parts in fiberglass and paint them but carbon fiber would look pretty nice.
When i talk small right now I'm thinking things only a few inches square, maybe a foot square.
Any sources for raw materials such as the carbon fiber fabric and correct resin?
Can I expect this stuff to be relatively inexpensive or cost an arm and a leg?

I thought that CF had to be cured in a vacuum seal???

Thanks I saw them on Google. Looks like 30-50 bucks a yard with that yard ranging from 30" to 50" in width.
One yard would make plenty of small parts.
This would be single layer non-structural stuff so I think standard molds would work.

They even have Kevlar fiber if you want to make some really strong parts!
Can't trim it with scissors though, you gotta wait 'til the resin hardens and cut it with a cutting wheel.

You could also try www.aircraftspuce.com (http://www.aircraftspuce.com) or www.wicksaircraft.com (http://www.wicksaircraft.com) for carbon fiber, kevlar and resins. I work with this stuff sometimes at my work and don't enjoy it

I happen to be a prosthetic tech. I can get you scrap pieces of carbon or fiberglass and maybe even kevlar, you will want to find some resin that you do not need to use under vacuum though most of you epoxy will work just fine stay away from acrylics because if used without vacuum it will boil and look really bad. You really don't need kevlar your carbon fiber will be plenty strong for anything you wish to build.
