Why is it that my 2003 MM build date 06/02 does not have a O/D button on the transmission level like the drivers manual shows???

Show us a pic of the driver's side of your shifter.

If you don't have an O/D button, you have a very rare MM indeed.
The O/D button is right below the interlock release button.

The O/D button is right below the interlock release button.Your right thumb should find it while holding the shifter.

:o Well smear my ears with jam and strap me to an ant hill:o
It aint easy being me:help: . For some reason I just never say it. I was expecting the O/D button to be on the front side...going by the drawings in the manual I guess. I did take pics but they are larger than the 100kb limit...since the button is there, there is nothing unusual to report.
Thank you one and all.
(darn newbie...where do they come from?)

For some reason I just never saw it.No worries, mate...
I once insisted "...of course the steering wheel locks when the key is off!..." I even went out the the car in the middle of the night to prove it, only to discover that it actually DOESN'T lock...we were all noobs once... :D

Don't worry, you will have plenty of other discoveries before this journey is over!
When I drove mine off the lot I had no idea about the OD button or how bad the stock shift schedule really was. At some point about half way home I was muttering to myself "How the $%#@ do I shut down this overdrive!" It wasnt until I got home that I found the confounded button. ;)
You will need that button far too much until you tune the car, once tuned you will need it much less frequently...

I drove with my OD off for the whole highway trip home last night. Speeds between 70 and 80...Is that at all bad for the tranny???

At those speeds, you should not be cruising in third. Not only is it increased wear on the mechanical diode (though, not a sbad as doing this in a -97 4r70w (with one-way roller clutch)), but you are turning more revs than needed - more fuel consumption and increased engine wear.
So, if you're cruising at highway speeds definitely use o/d ;)

Due to my Mods, I tend to turn the O/D off more often. Cruising at highway speeds in 4th, then mashing the pedal down and have the tranny downshift from 4th to 2nd in a modded Marauder is very dangerous for your transmission.

Yep. I always turn it off before I mash it from a cruz. This can be big fun in a passing zone on a 2 lane at about 45 too :D
