took my new family member to work today, and went out of my way to park in a safe place. after I got new tires at lunch, I parked, and went inside. a little while later some yahoo with a 30 ft gooseneck pulls in, and when he tried to back out, he hit my Marauder in the drivers door, and front fender.
so now I've gone from extatic bliss, to depressed in seconds...:bigcry:
now since these are low-production investment grade vehicles, I wonder if I can use that to get state farm to fork over some extra for pain and suffering, and/or carfax depreciation?

Wow, what a bummer... Whatever you do, don't let them put a new skin on the door. Replace the door. (I have one if you're interested)
It's called diminished value I believe. You may be able to get something out of them for it.

That sucks man. Bummer to hear that. At least no one was hurt though, and your MM should be back to normal in no time. I'm assuming you guys exchanged Insurance's?

Unless your Sate specifically disallows it, State Farm is well known to insist on the use of used parts, or door skins rather than whole new doors.
good luck

Fortunatly, the damaged parts are 'generic' to the panther. Only thing special about the driver door is keypad hole or no keypad hole.
You won't really suffer diminished value if the repair is done right. One of the main things that makes it right is to REPLACE the DOOR (not skin it) and REPLACE the fender. Before putting them on the car, they should be BACKPAINTED thoroughly and not cleared. All door innards will swap right over. Then the ENTIRE CAR should be painted with barrier protection at all seams (to avoid over-spray intrusion). Assuming your car is black, the plastic part of the trunk and the bottom part of the taillights DO NOT get painted. Grille, all lights, trunk emblem, door handles are to be removed for paint. Taping off these parts is not only impossible, but unacceptable as a dead giveaway the car's been painted.
The main issues are backpainting (which is a DEAD giveaway) and color/surface texture matching with the rest of the car. No 'blending' or 'fogging in'! That's BS. Paint the car.
Hope this helps!

I have used a local Ford dealer that has done other p/b work for me in the past. The only discernable diff between orig paint and new painted parts of my car is that the repainted area are a better paint job. I notice it when I am polishing or running my fingertips over the paint.
Come to think of it, the body parts are still orig to the car, front bumper coover, spoiler/trunklid, and part of one side have new paint. All minor scuff, bad scratch and ding repairs. No serious body damage - yet!
But my point was that the right body shop can do things the right way. And if done right, the paint work will likely be better than the OEM paint job.

Wrong Again! (in my best Rafiki voice :D)
Once a car has had an insurance claim for repair, it can no longer be sold on a lot as "Certified". So, YES, it's value HAS decreased....how much? I dunno :D
I do agree, though, as long as the repairs are done correctly (ie - ^^^^^), no harm...no foul

I dont know of any insurance company that would paint the whole car when replacing a fender and door. Most reputable shops should be able to match the paint (especially black) on the same sightplane. Matching the surface/texture can be accomplished by giving the shop an hour or two extra labor for denib and wetsand.
As long as the shop guarantees/warrantees the work, I wouldnt waste your breath trying to get an insurance company to paint the whole thing.
Good luck with the repairs, and sorry to hear about your car!

The right shop can get it done, making it look good as new.
Sorry for your setback. Gald no one was hurt.
I offer to help with a good bodyshop but I do not know your location?

the damage is minor enough that it can be repaired on the car, and repainted below the beltline, I will pick the shop based on guarantee, there will be diminished value due to a second history report. I will be bringing that up when the adjuster shows up.
thanks for all the replies
