Only 800 or so miles for me. I bought in Boca Raton and drove it home to TN, took a one-way rental car down and spent the night there instead of flying down.

I know a story like this is due to happen to me sooner or later. ;) If I could only have a 1974 Dodge Manaco with a 440 and the money to pay for it.

It's fun for some reason to do that.
It's such a feeling of freedom and accomplishment for all your hard work ; to be able to take a road trip back home in the exact car you've always wanted. Especially during the spring or summer when the weather is nice.

I bought my '04 Comp. Orange Mach 1 in McAllen Texas and drove it home to Savannah, GA. I think the trip was about 1500 miles. It was awesome and I something I had been wanting to do. The next car I purchase will hopefully be my dream ride, a Dodge Viper. I hope to do the same thing with it.

Didn't fly, but I drove 800 miles to pick up my new Marauder in Athens, TN in Jan 04, and then drove 700 miles in June 05 to pick up my wife's Durango in ST. Louis. Both were fun trips.
I"m hoping to sell via the internet the Porsche Boxster I just bought, and DELIVER it for the purchaser.

He had this one tucked in there, sort of out of sight, and I bet most of you missed it. This was an odyssey of biblical proportions, done in a world class snow storm, and all of us rode along with the AZ traveler and Cruztaker. It was a hoot ....the stuff of movies ...

I joined the Navy and spent 3 1/2 years on a submarine in order to get my '68 Cougar. At discharge, I had it shipped to Terminal Island, then took a month to drive it back to Michigan.

Mike,
Thanks for the trip down memory lane....
I read all the posts and was surprised how up beat I sounded. Most of that trip I was a whipped puppy and a doubting Thomas. That has to be the hardest trip I've ever attempted... and I've done some crazy things...
I mean last weekend in LA traffic with a 23' car hauler on behind my 03 F150... piece of cake compared to that snow run!

Like, MIB, Gina & I have an XJS story. We flew to Monterrey CA and drove the Jag XJS back to St. Louis. The trip as I recall was about 2300 Miles. We set the trip computer in Monterrey and ran it the whole trip. Result, we averaged 67.5 MPH anytime the engine was running.
Earlier, we flew to LA, bought a beat-up 1961 Starfire, put a radiator in it, drove to San Diego, built a convertible top out of Duct Tape and drove it back to St Louis. The "top" lasted all the way to Laurence Welk Village. From there on it was topless all the way. The car looked so bad that the Valet at the MGM Grand refused to park it.

This is how I sold my '96 Thunderbird a few years ago. I posted it for sale on the TCCA forum (thunderbird & cougar club of america) and within a week a guy from Minnesota flew to Chicago, took it for a test drive, and drove it back home. He was quite impressed when I picked him up at O'hare in the marauder- they were still pretty rare at the time.
