I was wondering how may of you may be interested in taking the Auto-train out of Sanford, Florida to attend MV V in Maryland. I PM'd Eggie to get a cost. Might be a cool thing for several of us to attend en-group from SSM. Would be great trip.:D

I've been thinking about this too.
I see too much of I95 in my Ranger, sure would be nice to just roll the MM off the train in DC...

The Auto Train is non-stop from Sanford, FL to Lorton, VA. Line runs up the east coast and doesn't even get near Atlanta, GA.

That would be a cool way of traveling to MV5. Nice idea Tom.

I paid $571.00 for last year's "non-trip" to MV IV in Orlando. Tickets for the Auto Train for 2 People, 1 Sleepette compartment, and the Marauder. I would assume the northbound trip is identical. Prices tend to get higher the closer to the travel time. Book early.

Was that price round-trip or one-way?

I am sure the car would not have a problem. But with the gas prices and mileage I get:( ...it would probably be less expensive to put it on the train and have some fun with the group.

The $571.00 was a one-way fare that included a Sleepette compartment for two people and the car. You can significantly by just going with coach class tickets.

Checking on-line with Amtrak.com (thanks Bluerauder) I found that round-trip from Sanford, Florida to Lorton, VA for one adult and my Marauder with a Roomette cabin was $658.00 as of now. Add $150.00 for another passenger. I am sure the closer to August you get, the more expensive it will be. A pretty good deal. If it works out I plan to leave August 1st, departs at 4 Pm and arrives in VA at 9:30 AM August 2nd. Return trip, leave August 5th @ 4PM and arrive in Sanford, FL @ 9:30 AM August 6th.

Amtrak does have a group rate. If I remember correctly, you save one fare for every 20
I have the group # and will call them.
lets find out how many of us are going

Group rate on Amtrak is based on a 20 person min
We need to find out out how many will be traveling and call them to make a reservation. The longer we wait, the more we pay, prices go up by the hour.

Eggie, I'm interested, but can't commit for sure for at least a month.
But I'd like to know what the cost is before I say yes.

I would guesstimate about 550.00 round trip thats with a room. coach would be less

Is there any interest in the Auto Train?
I ride for free but I'd like to see the group get the best possible rate.
We need, at the least, "20" heads before they can give me a price.

Eggie, I am sure there may be some interest, but "20" . Don't think that will happen.
