Man, I tried everything...
Double-stick Tape...
Double-stick carpet Tape...
Stick-on "Velcro"....
But this works great...1" long wood screw...
be careful not to use an electric drill to set the screw...
Don't want to run it in too far....

The sliding cover has been a problem in my last three Panthers. Where did you place the screw? Is it placed vertically through the cover and against the inside of the wheel?::confused: I feel that Ford's stock price slide correlates with these small design problems.:twocents:

I think that to be an extremely bad Idea. If you are gonna go that far, why not tie the cover around the tire. Pop a few buttons in the cover and use a strap around the actual tire. Im very surprised Velcro did not work, both of my panthers had it.

I use bungee cord. It is hooked to each bracket of the trunk hinge.

Put a brick under the gas pedal...

Take a piece of duct tape about 8 inches long, roll it into a loop with the sticky side out. Squish between top of spare and cover.

Yes this is certainly a major flaw.
when will the old 'big three' finally 'get' it?

I never had a problem with the spare tire cover in my Crown Vics. It's the Spare Tire Curse Of The Marauder. Coming soon to a dragstrip near you!

The cover is probably the CV cover... and too small for the 18 inchers...

OK...what "REALLY" holds the spare tire cover in place is a half semi-circle
of card-board that slips just inside the spare tire rim....so the cover never moves....
The SCREW theory is just for my Marauder.Net friends...to ponder...
But it sure does look neat....and it drives the Lincoln/Mercury mechanics nuts....:D

nice work!

my 2000 model year cover stretches 100% the length of the entire tire. it has never fallen off. it has slightly shifted before, that is it.

my 1994 vic had a half cover like yours. it fell off everyday. i found a huge rubberband that was an inch thick. it fit around the entire tire. it never fall off after that.

You know it looks like you got the big boy cover for the donut spare. I wonder if they are the same or different?:dunno:

I used sticky velcro strips. It works better than the brick under the gas pedal!!!:mad2:

I have the same issue with my CV Sport.

Maybe an elastic strap with some velcro on one end, that you can put around the outside of the tire, where it's not covered. The strap would be attached to both ends of the cover carpet.

Will try that and see how it works.

How about a strap that attaches with velcro?
