It's probably factual, but he is quoting what could be called rumours on internet discussion boards.

The CV was relegated to fleet only a few yers ago in Canada.

There was talk of that last year.

I know this much, HPP is not available on the GM anymore.

It's been coming for a while, not too surprised. I do think that if they discontinue the Marquis also, they'll displace a lot of buyers, who probably have no interest at all in a Taurus or Montego. Then again, GM and DCX don't really have much for those folks either though... and how long does this give the Town Car? Two years maybe?

Kinda sad to see the beginning of the end for the full-frame passenger car.

Well I guess that means bye-bye to buckets, with floor shifter.

The P73 and the P74 and the P74 HPP and the P74 LX Sport are all listed as available on the Fleet only Order Guide for 2008..This was issued by Ford Two Weeks ago and is on the Ford Fleet Web Site...So, the rental car companies, government agencies, funeral homes, security companies and anyone with the proper Fleet ID can have a "civilian" CV of their choice... one color, Driftwood Beige, has been eliminated, and a cigarette lighter is now optional, a Valet Key is eliminated and tire pressure monitors are now standard... STAP starts putting these out with Job 1 the second week of May of this year...yup, 2008s out in May.. the town car move from Wixom is on schedule with 2008 Job 1production from STAP in December of this year. Anyone who has no FIN, but wants a 2008 CV will be able to get one as a program car with 12 to 20,000 miles about this time next year...I will download the Grand Marquis guide and present those changes in a later missive. Changes to the GM are practically identically physically with the CV and production begins for 08 at the same time...

To adress the Town car issue, it just so happens that the car is also a fleet only option as of 08.

......and we hear almost everyday "why are the American car companies going broke"? With decisions like these, and replating the 500 as the Taurus, no wonder Ford is in a downspiral. I saw this coming years ago when I wanted to replace my totalled Marquis. The only interior choices were: tan, camel (uh, what's the difference between those two?), denim blue and some other blue that also looked identical.. IT'S ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CHOICES YOU CAR COMPANY DOLTS. CUT BACK ON CHOICES AND SERVICE = BUSINESS GONE!!!

Goes back to the beginning "They can have any color they want... as long as it's black." They are simply returning to their roots is all.

Whatever happened to RED interiors. :depress:

I always liked 'em...my old 1983 Capri has red, and more recently my inlaws had a '97 TC red w/ all white exterior. I liked it...the interior color almost made the car more comfortable...

Red was not available after the 94 year model I was told when I went to order the new Marquis in 98.

the most common panther body i see on the road here is the grand marq.

i see a few lincoln town cars, and a very few civilian crown vics.

but one unifiying theme between all of these is that the drivers tend to be old.

if they havent already bought their last new car, i would be surprised.

the market for these cars is going to shrink. i think these people buy these cars because these are the brands they bought when they were younger.

people now days prefer other brands, in time, lexus and acura will be seen in the same light as lincoln and mercury.

Apparently Ford has denied the cars are going fleet only.

This may be an over reaction to someone misinterpreting because they received the Fleet order guides before the retail guides come out.

I think getting rid of the Town Car is really dumb. Granted most owners are well aged but still, there is a market. How many were sold in 2006, anybody know? I really dont understand what the hell is going on at Ford.

when I bought my marauder back in october the general manager of the dealership said they were stopping production of the civilian crown victoria to make room for the production of the new Interceptor. I've noticed alot of the police departments around where I live have switched up to Impalas anyway.

You believed the dealer? did we even now about the Interceptor concept back in October?

Police Departments usually buy fleet production, so they wouldn't be effected

I still haven't seen any confirmation from Ford on this. The previous statement that it's simply because the fleet order guides come out first and this is all over reaction makes more sense

I was at my LM dealer today, looking at the new cars while my Marauder was getting some dash trim replaced. I got to talking with one of the salesmen and he mentioned that there would be an all-new Town Car for 2008. I asked if it was going to be on the same platform and he said no, it would be a smaller car. He claimed that the Panthers are being replaced with a down-sized platform to meet federal fuel mileage requirements. Gotta make the cars lighter in order to squeeze more MPG out of them. Even if government regs is not the real reason, it still means goodbye to the full-size Fords and L&Ms. Maybe our resale will go up?

So what is going on? Would I suggest that I know? What I do know is that you can not screw-up like this by accident. This is planned. The plan is working. Ask me how I know.:coolman:

another suspect story from an all knowing salesman?

I read someplace Lincoln is going to come out with a car based on the Taurus/Sable but I cant see that car being the dream car people have in mind. At the car show they had a Lincoln show car that didnt look too bad, kinda sporty. It was sad though because I think I was the only person who took a look at the Grand Marquis and Town Car. Guess times change (and I think you are right about the overall gas mileage issue).
