OEM speakers 20 to 25 watts at the most, I can check on the aux input if you want. Are you planning on changing speakers and deck. If so PM me

Dunno, but John Kuhn, our resident radio shop guy is an MM.NET vendor, and a super guy, I'm sure he'll be helpful. http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=76

There are suposedly kits that will interface an ipod to the radio if you do NOT have a changer. They will interface through the would-be changer control.

well i should have introduced myself. just pick up my new silver 04 (16K). drove it from Tx to PA. was a little disappointed in the performance of the speakers. was wondering if maybe an amp would help. i like the OEM radio and would like not to change that out.

The AUX input is for HD radio i'm thinking about.

Then use an FM modulator to get into the system.

Adding an amp will be difficult and not produce the quality you're looking for. Replacement speakers are the answer with coax or triax speakers. John Kuhn can sell you Pioneer REV series which many of us have been happy with and are Ford Factory Fit.

Are the stock speakers the "Ford Permium sound" Speakers used in ford's higher end stereo systems? If so they do sound good.

Well, If sound quality is what you are looking for I say change the headunit; a chain is only as strong as the weakest link as with your stereo. The headunit will not produce a very high quality sound, the electronics just arent there. If you still plan to keep the unit, PAC-AUDIO makes a real good AUX interface for most cars, it is a stand alone unit, so a cd-changer cannot be used. Back in 2004, they didnt make a harness for the 24pin fords, that may have changed.

Yer right. For a single cone speaker, they aren't bad at all.
What they lack though is a tweeter. The monax cone is trying to do too much at once.

Add the amp and keep the headunit, put in the Pioneer Revs or a good componet speaker package and it will kick butt.

Doh! You're right. I'm gettin old. Ford is STILL switching (or started to) to Alpine and we DO have an Alpine deck, amp, sub and changer.

I'm no fan of the need for a line out converter or a line-in amp. Deck amplifies, LOC drops to line level, amp amplifies again. Me no likey that sound. It works, no doubt, but for the wiring effort, I'd just as soon go to an aftermarket radio with more features I can use.

If it's a stock look you want, make a fake face plate.

Tons of good advice here. Let your budget be your guide!!!

I will soon be removing my stuff. I am currently running the stock radio, and up upgradeing to a Nav Unit.

I will no longer be needing some of my stuff needed to add an amp to the Factory Radio. Drop me a line if interested.

My left speaker doesn't always work on low volume on AM. I have to turn the volume up for the sound to start to work. Now, the right front speaker sounds bad. What would you guys suggest for stock speaker replacement. Do they have the proper "plugs" on the end to tie into the factory speaker?

I do not know about "Exact Fit" Speaker Connections, but my sets of REV's installed w/o ANY problem, and sound GREAT w/ the Stock Radio.

Try Kenwood speakers if you can't find the Pioneers.
I put Kenwoods all around and I am very happy with them.

You can buy factory-to-OEM adapters from most audio places including Best Buy and Circuit City.

First of all, NEVER mention bose on here. Total garbage with a vengeance....the stock Marauder system is NOT Alpine, regardless of what anyone thinks. It is a radio and four basic paper speakers with a low powered woofer in a plastic box. At best it is hardly acceptable. The system is best removed and put away for reinstallation to restore the vehicle. The doors and rear deck accomodate 5X7 speakers and the OEM woofer is nothing but a loudspeaker in a sealed plastic box. An afterthought at best. My advice, either utilize a 5 channel amp on new speakers and a 10" woofer or go balls-out like I did and sink $12,000 into a jaw-dropping show stopper that makes you tingle when you listen to it. I happen to know exactly what I am talking about - as a master installer of 19 years, there's not much I cannot do to improve a sound system.

Strange then how Alpine tech support led me to the pin outs on the sub plug and explained that the single sub signal was balanced and that the fact amp has a 5V trigger rather than 12V.

Glad to see you back Kenny. Where ya been?

And yes Bose is indeed overpriced over-complicated garbage and is also incidentally a 4-letter word!

Hey guys, I have a GM and factory CD changer, and did not want to lose the changer control. I changed all the speakers with Alpine speakers 5X7 in front doors and 6X9 in the rear deck. I just added a Alpine V-power amplifier with speaker level inputs, and the sound is much better and now can be turned up and sound pretty good. It even has decent bass even though the car does not have a sub installed. What is nice is that this amp has a low level subwoofer output and switches to cut the low frequencies to the front and or rear shelf speakers. With this a sub can be added very easy. I picked up a factory subwoofer enclosure and was going to install it with an upgraded speaker. I also picked up a 8" 120 watt self powered sub enclosure and trying to decide which one to use.
I wanted to keep stock appearance when looking into car, and with the set up I have it even sounds great.

I changed the frt/rear to Boston Acoustics and the sound is adequate, as in when I listen to it there is nothing driving me to spend more money.

No, they aren't.

The Ford Premium Sound is a JBL system. The MM system is made by Alpine and marks the beginning of Ford's transition from JBL to Alpine for an OEM vendor.

JBL --> Alpine transition was in 1999 on the Lincoln Town Car and Navigator. Not 2003 on the Marauder.

Ford Premium Sound = Ford / Visteon.

"Ford JBL Audio system" was the actual JBL<>Ford joint system. The speakers in these units are designed by JBL, and are identified with the JBL logo on back of every component. Seperate components are often used. JBL logo is also printed on head unit (typically cassette door)

The MM system is very little 'Alpine', only some changes to the head unit's audio processing. The system is actually the "Alpine Audiophile" system - using 'audiophile' speakers
MM's speakers are actually parts-bin 'premium sound' speakers, same as the CV/GM.

Subwoofer was a variation of the 92-1997 GMQ JBL subwoofer unit. The amplifier is essentially the 98+ Town Car Alpine-tweaked sub amp, but with the CV/GM 6 pin sub pinout. The subwoofer itself is Ford's

I don't care who made the stock stereo in the MM. It sucked, and I yanked it within 7 days of owning the car ;)
