When i turn my radio on, my FM1/2 tuners dont work. I have to turn the volume up all the way just to hear it a little. The AM/CD/changer all work normally.
Every once in a while, the sound comes back for a few seconds (which scares the crap out of me each time since i had the volume all the way up).

Has anyone had this issue? Is it an amp problem, or head unit problem?

Head unit problem. Ford has had problems for years with the faces. Replace with a new aftermarket or send in for service.

...send in for service.

If it offends no vendors...

These guys are the ****nit for repairs... http://www.carradio.com/

If it does offend, I'll remove the link.

Its ok by me Rich. Do you know if they also do imports? If they do we will try them!

I dunno. Call 'em. I've never not gotten a good answer about factory stuff. They are why I know so much!

They do amps and stuff, too. Just be careful. It's easy for repair labor to creep up to the cost of replacement!

does anyone recommend an aftermarket head unit that will work easily w/ our changer and setup?

I doubt any aftermarket Head Units will work w/ the stock 6 Disc Changer...

Hopefully I am wrong though.

We have not found any aftermarket that will interface with the factory changer either. I can help you with a aftermarket deck if you decide you want to go that way. Just pm if your interested.

Yes, look HERE (http://www.sunshinestatemarauders.net/info) under Pioneer Avic-D2 Install (http://www.magindat.net/ssm/info/AVIC/Install.htm). It takes a Metal Coat Hanger, or you can pay $$$ for the real tool from a Car Audio Shop.

4 6d finish nails will do it, too.
