View Full Version : Wiper problem revisited...
OK, my turn with the wiper issues. I have reviewed the threads and PM'ed some of the folks and I am waiting to hear back from them.
Has anyone found a clear resolution to the "wacky wiper" syndrome?

How 'bout this? This was finally done correctly on my MM. So far, so good.
It seems this problem has been with the Panther chassis since 2001! Ford calls it "uncommanded wiper operation" Tech. service bulletin #05-04-09.
1. Replace wiper motor
2. Drill hole below to drain water causing motor to short out.

On mine, the dealer repalced the wiper motor and installed an updated wiper motor wiring harness IIRC. No problems in the year since the repair.

There has been a TSB on the issue, directly applies to MM as well

ISSUE:
Some 2003 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis vehicles may exhibit the windshield wiper turning on intermittently without activating the wiper switch.
ACTION:
Inspect the wiper motor and connector for signs of corrosion and/or moisture. If any corrosion or moisture are found, and the wipers exhibit an intermittent uncommanded operation, replace the wiper motor and connector/pig tail. If no visible sign of moisture or corrosion is present follow normal diagnostics in Section 501-16 of the Workshop Manual.

My brother's MM had the "UNCOMMANDED WINDSHIELD WIPER OPERATION" so, as per your advice, we replaced the wiper motor.
Since this was our first time doing this it took us a shameful 2 hours but we went slow and took our time. Getting the motor off the wiper assembly was the most time consuming part. We literally had to bang it off.:mad2:
Anyway, 3 days later and all still seems to be well.
I hate to say it but I would rather fix these problems on my brother's Marauder then mine.;)
If you haven't already, replace the connecter to the wiper with the new style and add another hole or two (or verify cleaniless of existing drain holes on cowl)

We did clean all the holes in the cowl and boy did they need it. We didn't change the connector because we thought that we would have to cut and splice togther all the wires since we could not find the other end (one end connects to the wiper motor and one end goes where?).
