I'm planning on the gears soon an was wondering since my car does'nt appear to have had the axles changed w/ bearings should i change them at the same time or just have them inspected while installing the gears ? I got a 06-02 MM with 50k on the clock.

I would only replace them if you are wanting to upgrade to 31-Splines  , or if your's show wear.

should i change them at the same time or just have them inspected while installing the gears ?That's a good question. The axle TSB kit is about $330 MSRP and includes everything you might need. OTOH, if you get it apart and find the axles are fine, you've wasted that money, although you might be able to re-sell the kit to someone who needs it.

Since Ford decided to use 31 spline axles on the 250hp 4.6 SOHC '05< Panther chassis, I recommend anyone that goes to the trouble of a differential R&R to upgrade to 31 spline axles and differential. Also, use a solid pinion bearing pre-load spacer, rather than the collapsable/crush style.

i left my bearings but i only had 28,000 miles and as far as upgrading Axels it overkill if your not running 500 + hp

It seems like the marauder will be more fun than chevelle an i can sell chevelle an supercharge the MM an do other upgrades as well without using the CC's (creditcards)! We will see very soon what i decide to do .

It would be wise to be sure you have ready access to an axle TSB kit. If you are 6/02 you will very likely have the axle issue. If you don't now, you will.
If you make sure a local dealer has one in stock, then if you need it during the 4.10 install, it's just a parts run away. Warn the gear installer that it may be an issue as well and allow time in the install for it.

However, if you are planning on supercharging in the future or are even thinking about it, go ahead and get the 31's and the new carrier. New 31's are about the same $ as the TSB kit. The carrier will cost a bit more.

If you follow the above advice, you'll save a lot of labor.

Listen to Rich and spend a little more now but save money not having to redo later. Learn from some of the mistakes some of has made!
