the moons are nice but will they cause problems, in the past some hot vehicles were not offered with options like t tops sunroofs moonroof due to alot of power under the hood, We all know when you play you gotta PAY, so has anyone w/supers, blowers, turbo, had or heard of anyone having problems with cracking, twisting, shattering, or air leaks, wind noise thanks jeff

Huh? I have NEVER heard of such a thing.

I HAVE heard of Sun / Moon Roofs reducing structural rigidity.

Have heard of NO problems related to the MM moonroof. Last problem vehicle with such an issue was the T-Top Camaro/Firebird. Panels would break free because of body flex. Don't think HP had anything to do with it. Was mostly a body rigidity thing since the car's roof provided the stiffness. Don't think you are gonna get much (if any) body flex in the Marauder with just a moonroof hole.

My friend had a 1999 Camaro Z28, had a whole bunch of work. It ran low 11's...

He came over to our house one day and showed me his glass T-Top, sc***** up and trashed. I asked what happened and he said he floored it and the damn thing popped up and flew onto the road

Sorry.....

The Sun / Moon Roof issues WERE NOT in the MM, but in other vehicles.

Yea, I don't think that's true. That's why new 'Stangs, Camaro's(later ones), aren't offered with them. Do you guys remember the the '87 Iroc-Z's with the 350 5spd and t-tops? My friends older bro had one and whenever he would launch it hard without the t-tops on he would crack windshields left and right.

You know I would not think a stock MM with a moom would be a problem, but with a super charger and a set of 4:10 gears i don't know,The stock mm i had with 21000 mi. it had a stress crack on the oe radio face plate though thanks jeff

I had an 87 mustang GT with t-tops. Horrible experience, even though I kept the car for 9 years. Welded on subframe connectors helped, but the car was terribly squirrely going into a corner under brake and going to power or vice versa. I've driven the same car with a sunroof and it was like night & day, much more stable. I could imagine what a convertible was like.

The seals never leaked on the roof, but the seal between the roof panels and door window never worked. Driving in the rain would force water through the gap (it would pull open with speed), onto the seatbelt, and down into my lap. They were so loose that when I locked my keys in the car, I was able to pull the side window out a few inches, reach in & open the door. Not a very well thought out design, they just lopped off the window guide tracks above the door & called it good.

Still pretty nice for a cruise on a sunny summer day.:cool4:

Hmmm.. Only thing i can complain about is since the procharger install when i hit the go pedal the slider under the the moon roof slides open:D

My 96 Mark 8 made 550 to the tires and ran low 11's and had a OEM SR
and I never had a issue with this, but with a real high RWHP car the body can twist, but I have never read of any one having a issues.

Nice one Seneca!

With the chassis these cars have, and body on frame design, this issue does not effect us.

I think the discussion has centered around cars with sub-frames or unit bodies which rely on the roof and A/B/C pillars for triangulated structural rigidity.

I believe our frame and rubberized body connectors keep us from this issue.

Amoon or sunroof does not change the strength of this car at all due to the full perimeter frame. The body also has been reinforced around the roof so flex should not be an issue. I would not worry about it.

On my old 1978 Thunderbird, with factory T-Tops, not a single body panel lined up properly after 3 years of Drag racing. Go figure !

I had to place a bushing over the adjusters to keep the tops tight after a while.

I used to own a 90 Firebird Formula with a T-Top and never had one problem with it. In fact, I loved the damn thing, it was great. When I bought the car I wasnt too sure after hearing all the possible problems but I really liked that the car seemed to keep all the rigidity of a coupe but be able to pop those roof panels out on a nice day was really nice. Somewhere in Santiago, Chile, somebody is driving my Firebird dammit.

you all have good ideas and opinions that I consider and appreciate, SO MY CONCLUSION IS THAT when i find the right mm if it has a OE moon then i would=ld go for it . I would now consider just the rite MM even if it did not have i moon at all , where before i only have been considering MMs w/moon roofs, there's another few hundred to choose from thanks everyone....

body twist and t-tops, yes, but moonroofs, i dont even think body twist would have so much of an affect b\c the moonroof is in the track ( unless is is a pop-up one)( i dont know i got a grand marquis, not a maurader)

good point, that in theory would allow some give between the track and bearing rollers, verses a old t top that latched directly

YEP...

Marauder: Body on frame ---> GOOD TO GO!

Mustang: Unibody -----> NOT SO GOOD! I wrinkled the sheet metal around my 85's moon roof the first time I put sticky tires on it at the dragstrip.
T-Tops would have been even worse.:(

I had my roof installed after I purchased my Marauder.
It is the same roof that FORD installs.
It is 3 years old now and I haven't had any problems with it
and I drive with it open almost as much as I drive !
