I cleaned my MAFS last night with electrical contact cleaner. Let it sit for 1-2 hrs before reinstalling it and the car started right up and then it acted like it wanted to die. I also noticed from dead stop if I give it anymore gas than to start creeping it want's to bog down and I also noticed the battery discharge light has come on 3-4 times. After I start moving and get past 15mph the car actually seems more responsive and at a stop it idles a lot smoother than before.

Anyone have an idea if my problem is linked to the MAFS and I also have 68.5K miles so my next step will to have the belt tensioner checked out and replaced if need.

Is the connector in good and tight?

Certainly the Belt has nothing to do with what you did... of course it should have been changed 20K ago.. and the old one left in the trunk with a 1/2 drive breaker bar for emergencies... I would expect that you used a cleaner which uses residue...or you got crud in your connector...I have done a dozen or more without symtoms like yours... why did you clean it? Sure sounds like the IAC is wacked...

Well I usually clean my MAFS every 6 months when I also clean my filter. I drive 25-30K miles a year.

I used this stuff to clean it. I'll try and make sure everything is tight and their isn't any stuff on the actual connector itself.

Did you use a non-residue contact cleaner?

So the battery light has come on 3-4 times since the cleaning, or since you purchased the car?
What else did you do in the engine bay, any washing?

make sure all your sparkplug wires are nice on all the connections

I use the same stuff I have always used on my other past and present FMC vehicles. Battery light had come on and the car would turn off over a course of 6 months after I purchased it, the local L/M dealer couldn't get it to do it so their was nothing to fix.

No spark plug wires....coil-on-plug.

Man do I feel stupid!!!!!! I just got back from taking the wife out drinking (heavily) and while she made her way inside the house I popped the hood to make sure the plug was on tightly..........WRONG I had totally forgot to plug it back in LOL!

When you clean the MAF sensor you have to reset the EEC by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a few minutes!! For some reason I don't loose my radio presets but do loose the treb, base, and speed volume??

I did mine yesterday and it really made a difference in idle quality and midrange POWER!!!:bows: I also had stalling issues with the A/C "OFF"....WEIRD!!!

So far all is well.....time will tell??:cheer:

Clean the MAFS with brake parts cleaner. doesn't leave a residue like carb cleaner does.

I use this (http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/content/prod_detail.aspx?PN=05110&S=N). It's a tad pricey, but at least I know I can't hurt anything with it.

I didn't reset anything but I can see the difference in the idle quality and midrange power also. Yeah I've noticed that too about radio presets, I think if you leave the battery unplug for more than an hour or so it might reset them.

If winter ever ends, I'll be reinstalling my PHP air box. I've never cleaned the MAF before, maybe its time. Where can that product be purchased?

how could you go wrong? 'Mass Air flow Sensor cleaner'Duncan, that was my point exactly. I'd rather pay a little extra and get a product that is specifically designed, or at least specifically qualified, for this purpose than to use brake cleaner or some other other product that *might* cause some unforeseen problem in future.
Where can that product be purchased?I got mine at NAPA...

The stuff I use CRC "QD Electronic Cleaner" is plenty safe for MAFS. I've used it on all my FMC vehicles without any problem. I just had a problem this time because it was like 2am and I was half out of it and forgot to plug the MAFS connector back in lol.
