Hi

I am the Diabolical1 CC

This is my first post, I am a former Ford owner and future Marauder owner. I have been a Marauder fan since they first came out. I live in Alberta (Calgary) and I currently drive a Subaru Legacy sedan.

I have a deposit on a 2004 DTR and am just working out how to sell or trade in my Subie and pickup my Marauder.

So my question:

How many Marauders are there in Canada, in particular DTR's?

Welcome to the club from Halifax! I'm pretty sure there are more than three Canadian DTR's :) I've seen about that many here in Nova Scotia. Even two blues spotted. Whatever you get, enjoy, and I look forward to your first impressions. Don't forget to mark MVV on your calendar.

Welcome aboard! Better get the Flames to turn up the heat or they'll be golfing the rest of the month! I guess the 'Wings figured out what not to do last season.

DTR's have really grown on me. With only three built for Canada, it might be a good one to "swoop" up. Besides the good looks and great sound, they're very tough cars that ride and handle well. A truly wonderful road car. I know there are some "roads" in Alberta, just beckoning for a jaunt!

Best luck and enjoy the site,

JMan

Although I'm not up on Canada road conditions in the winter, I'd re-consider selling the Subaru, or at least, getting a winter beater. Many folks, realizing the rarity of the MM and for other reasons, choose to park theirs for the winter months.

Welcome to the Club !

It happens that I also have a Subaru -Impreza Outback. My wife drives it. But as Mike said, think before selling your Subaru. At least here in Quebec -which is probably a part of Canada - the winters are harsh and long. I had again last night a snow storm, + 20 cm accumulation, and I am quite happy driving these days my MGM LSE 2003. Very happy also is my MM, sleeping in her garage...

Yeah, the Marauder works well in Alberta winters, especially with steelies and winter tires. My biggest complaint is the stupid drivers in the city that can never seem to learn to drive in winter, followed by all the rocks that get thrown up from the 4X4 trucks running around. (stupid stone chips)

Welcome to the site! Lots of information here and a lot of knowledgable people.

Part of the reason for getting the Marauder is to get away from cars I don't fit into, very well.

My Subie is an ok short range car, but for longer trips I need something I can stretch out in a bit. Then there is the problem of hitting my head on the roof every time I hit a speed bump and leg cramps have been bothering me lately so that if I drive the Subie for more than an hour I need to get out and walk around for 5+ minutes to walk it off.

I might get myself a different AWD/4WD in the future, the Suzuki SX4 for instance is a great fitting car. But right now all I need is one car. I looked at the SX4 but for the same money I picked this Marauder.

I also considered a VW Phaeton and a Mercedes G500 but they are both $$$$$'s more.

I'll find out Tomorrow what TheCarStore guys say the Subie is worth and then expidite my Marauder purchase. One way or the other.

I guess I picked the Marauder to be my people mover and winter car, as well as a great car for the rest of the year. I was also considering a Lightning but need more than 3 seats. I also keep hearing contradictory information on whether they have traction control. Couldn't see myself driving a RWD in snow without it again. Although a pickup could be handy for moving stuff, towing, etc...

I checked with Luke from Tirerack and he suggested to
do this

215/65-16 front
and
225/70-16 rear

and go with the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow

Welcome to the site, fellow Canuck! Good choice on the winter tires. You will need them. I'm using them as well, but 215s on the rear. I don't think your TC will go bonkers with those offsets.

Traction Control was added part way through the 2003 production run, when they switched from the 300A to 300B series. So yours, being a 2004, does indeed have TC.

Sorry I meant traction control on the Lightning.

Did Canadian Marauders ever come without Traction control?

I looked at one with the front seat map pocket, lumbar button, traction control, no heated seats, 2003 black up here but for $1000 less than what I paid for my DTR.

Just waiting for my DTR to be shipped over now.

:welcome: You'll love your MM!

Every Canadian Marauder came with traction control (due to the winter weather), including my early 300A. Lightnings, on the other hand, never did. Trust me, the Lightning is not an all season vehicle. Virtually no weight over the rear wheels and gobs of torque = no traction. I love my L, but am glad it goes into hibernation for the winter.

PS - I use Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 Winterbiters 225/60-16 front and 235/65-16 rear. When they wear down (been three winters, now), I'll be buying more of the same.

Dude, does it have a sunroof? There is one DTR in Calgary that has a factory sunroof. It's the only DTR in Canada with one.

You might have a 1 of a kind!

Aren Jay
04-20-2007, 09:37 AM
Thankfully it does not. I'm too tall for sunroofs on most cars. It is funny that most sunroofs have the silly edge of the sunroof right overtop the front passengers heads. I've sat in Subaru's, with my head poking sideways out the sunroof/moonroof. Kia's Amanti is a nice looking car but even though the specs say it has more headroom than a Marauder, it doesn't. The dealer told me that "driving with my head tilted to the right was normal and that is how he drives." Mercedes in their older cars has the sunroof right near the edge of the door frame and this makes it ok, plus it has a springy cover which is also nice when you do bounce into it. The extra springy seats though are a major pain, like driving around sitting on a waterbed. I got sea sick sitting in the back of one of those. Porsche also has the too the edge sunroof. A good idea. In England I had a Toyota that had a tiny manual flip up sunroof, it wasn't very wide and didn't intrude on headroom. So far the only make that has a, above the head sunroof edge - sunroof that I can easily fit into is the 2003/2004+ Jaguar S-type, XJ series. Even the Towncar with a sunroof had me scrunching down to sit in the front seat.
The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has problems all its own. I sat in one at the car show, Manual seat, no height adjustment. My head stuck out the roof and I could just look over the roll bar.

It is funny of the modern, 2006+ MY cars, Trucks, SUV's and crossovers there are very few that tall big people can sit comfortably in. It usually works out that the smallest of the cars are the only ones that the biggest people can fit comfortably into. (not counting those disgusting minivans). The bigger expensive cars we big people don't fit into. Sure there are a couple but not many.

(how long should I rant for?)

I have been car shopping for a long time, My Subie is just slightly too small. Since getting it 2.5 years ago I've realized I don't really fit, and driving scrunched down in the seat just isn't comfortable. About 8 months after getting it, it was necessary and did it's job, although for winter driving the first two years we only had 5 days of snow, and the NA engine in Subies lend themselves to pushbutton accelleration, push the button eventually you accellerate, after a short pause. They are also very boring to drive because they hold the road so well. Point A to Point B cars, press the button off you go.

Anyway I looked at the local Nissan Dealership. Gets raves in the paper every day, a friend was in need to replace his 89 Caprice deathtrap. So we popped in for a look. The Versa the smallest car they sell had just about everything, a little cheap and small, but loads of room inside, and affordable.

Everything else, we either hit our heads, knees, elbows or just couldn't climb into it. It is unbelievable that a Nissan Armada is so huge on the outside but so small on the inside.

The Smart car that was an experience all of it's own. I almost bought one, sitting inside with the glass roof, no problem headroom galore, knees didn't hit the dash and the thing is so small the front end looks like it ends right in front of the dash. Very cool little car. Not much cargo room though the rear rack helps for some things. Everything was great until I closed the door. My shoulder stuck out the window and my arm fell freely down the outside of the door. My left leg was pushed into the car and I ended up looking straight at the right A pillar. If only it was 6 inches wider. I would be driving the worlds safest motorcycle. With the sunroof I hit the roof though.

What does work for me is the much missed T roof. I had that in my Firebird and it was great. Although the front seat didn't move far enough back and the seatbelts had the position to slide across your neck just enough to choke you to death in an accident.

This last car show showed me that of everything there, not counting the minivans, I would only fit into the Jaguars, the Suzuki SX4 and the Lexus something460 L, but even that with the front passenger seat all the way forward didn't have enough rear legroom for me to make use of the power ottoman.

So I bought a Marauder, sans sunroof.

(the short form)

Sorry no sunroof thankfully. I don't fit into most cars with sunroofs.

PS I'm know for being rather prolific in my posts.

One feature you may be unaware of, is the power seats. They lower, as well as tilt/recline. And the pedals move fore/aft as well.

That is illegal. You are entitled to have YOUR car fixed at the place YOU choose.

I'm waiting for my Attorney to call back, he is in a very noisy meeting.

What should I do?

Should I call the RCMP?

Should I go have a flatbed pick up my Marauder and bring it to the place I want to work on it?

any thoughts?

Sick your lawyer on them. Do what he tells you. I'm sure he'll give you the same advice, it's your car, it's your decision.

A week to repair tells me it's more serious than a broken headlight. And we Marauder owners know, when a shop tells us it'll be OEM specs - they'll use the specs for a Grand Marquis or Crown Vic. Not the same thing. In many cases, close; in many other respects it's a totally different car.

For a front headlight and upper headlight caseing which was supposedly cracked, what replacement parts should they be using to fix this? How does it differ from the GM or CV parts?

The bezel around the headlight of a GM or CV is chrome, in a Maruader it is BLACK!

There is a 'factory freak' Marauder that someone posted (but I can't find) that got one black and one chrome bezel - and it's real obvious!

magindat
04-27-2007, 10:28 AM
I wonder if the 'casing' around the headlight is actually the header panel. If so, and it's cracked, the whole header panel has to be replaced and to do that means taking apart the entire front end. It sounds to me like they thought they were in for a headlight and are now replacing a header panel.

If so, the MGM is the same as MM. The part would be painted independantly and assembled to the car, so at least there wouldn't be any fade lines where they 'blended' the paint....

The keyless entry on any Ford product can be programmed with ANY 5-digit code. . So..... unless you forget your birthday, your anniversary, your lucky number, etc.... then there is NO reason to ever have to stand there and press a million buttons. It has been posted here several times - even a few times by me, that there is an easy way to get your master code if you do not know it. Taking off the driver inner door panel is simple and requires the most basic tools and only a partial brain stem. So, once again - please PM me with your email address if ANY OF YOU do not know your master code and I will happily email you the instructions with photos. Here's a lollipop now.

I picked up my Marauder on Saturday.

Wow it really is a big car. It has the special sound and attracts alot of attention, particularly around mustangs. Floored it doing a lane change and scared myself, very unlike my Subaru. This car really does put a smile on your face. I'm still learning how to drive it. It was intransit and as such I could only take it home. Monday it goes in for inspection, will see how that works out. Hopefully everything is as good as it looks.

It barely fits in my garage. I'm going to have to put a mark on my canoe to get the parking just right. Next week is the inspection, passing that I need to sell my Subaru and then transfere the plate over. Then it is just me and my Marauder.

It's quite funny, It seems like I have graduated from a kids car, my Subie, to an adults car. Everything is bigger and with so much more space it just feels like I finally got a real car. I still need to figure out the best seat and pedal adjustments workout where all the guages and switches are but that will all come soon. Slowly switch from the AWD mode back to RWD driving and given how much larger it is where all the corners are.

I was thinking I might want to get a spoiler to help with knowing where the backend is for backing up but I might just get one of those rear view cameras instead, possibly with an upgraded headunit Display DVD etc...

That will have to wait till I have some money saved up though. Now I just need to pass the inspection and then register it. Tuesday or Wednesday I should be driving my Marauder no problem.

I also found the original window sticker for it, it says that it was sent to Edmonton but then shipped to Metro Ford Calgary. Now it is back home.

NO sorry for the confusion. Switch from my driving mode for driving my not at all rare AWD Subaru Legacy to my driving mode for driving my rare RWD Marauder.

That is it, Inspection is done plate is on, it is finally mine, I can drive it where and when I want, now only if I had somewhere to go.

Inspection said that the rear tires where down to 3/32, I need to get new rear tires. I've also noticed that when I start it first time it has a fair bit of black exhaust coming out. It clears up within 30 seconds and only happens the first time it is started. Mind you I have only started it fresh twice so far. Should I get something checked out?

These cars sure make a lot of :)'s.

Rear tires are hard to get, in the stock size. I just got a pair from Tire rack.

The black smoke on start issue is a known issue. Search here for many threads on it.

I drive with prescription sunglasses on all the time.

Black blue dark something. It lasts 10 seconds.

I don't know what kind of gas was in it, I put good stuff in though.

It sat for almost a month.

I've started it two times so far.

I've floored it three times.

That is it, so far.
