View Full Version : To get a spoiler or not to........

Hello Everyone....

I'm about a month or two from getting my MM and I'm debating on getting a factory installed spoiler after buying one. What are your guy's opinion should I get one or do you think the car looks better without it?

An input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks....

Dude, you will probably get an equal number who will tell you to do it and tell you NOT to do it. They are all wrong. In this case, the only opinion that matters is YOURS.

Personally, I like mine, but many do not, so go with your gut feeling.

Now, if you were asking about installing 24" rims and Lime Green paint, that would be an entirely different conversation... :D

Tough question. This is really a matter of personal preference. Some like 'em, some don't. Different reasons. Some like the OEM spoiler, some don't and have gone with other after market spoilers. It's really your choice.

I considered one for my Blue MM and decided against it.

Which is a reason NOT to put a spoiler on it. If you are into stealth, keep it stock looking!!

I have a mixed feeling about these myself.

I really like the way they look, but am unwilling to drill holes in the trunk lid to attach one.

I wonder if velcro will hold it.

I think they look real sharp.

I wonder how much they change the coeffecient of drag????

I do not think velcro will hold it on, yes you have to drill four holes into rear of trunk lid to install (remember it was a factory option for your Marauder)

Look at it this way, if you put it on and want to remove it in the future (which I doubt) the holes are on the rear of lid and can be easily filled in at good body shop without painting the top of lid.
Or you can go all out and pick up a trunk lid at a junk yard, they should be a dime a dozen considering they are the same on '98 and up Grand Marquis or Crown Vics.
As far as the coeffecient of drag, it is not likely to improve it much if at all
If YOU like it then go for it!

The heavy 3M body tape will hold the wing on. Bolting is better, but the tape WILL hold it on.

Technically, it wasn't a factory option. You could order it from the dealer and the dealer could install it or you could install it yourself. It could not be installed at the factory. I like the look of ours.

Why are you unwilling to drill? Are you afraid that you will tire of it and want it removed, leaving those holes? Are you concerned about weatherproofing?

The hardest thing I ever did to The Blackbird was to put the 5/16" drill bit to the deck lid when it was only a few months old, but the installation went really well and I'm glad I did it. I've done it to 2 other MMs and a CV since then.

Hotrauder, you look all dressed up and ready to GO!

Yes, I am indeed afraid to drill holes. Not because I feel I will make a mistake, I have all the tools and skill to do that. I worry about our wretched climate and abuse of road salt in the winter months. Remember, mine is my daily driver, in all weather, and we get it all.

All the salt needs is a small opportunity to get at that fine American/Canadian steel. It's all over pretty quickly around here. I do have some POR-15 I could apply to the drilled holes, but I still worry.

I will likely never do this, but I do like the looks. Subtle, classy and sharp, without being over-done.

I had a MM spoiler on my Crown Vic Sport, and I wish I hadn't put it on. I felt like it detracted from the clean lines of the car. There is no benefit from installing the spoiler, it is strictly a cosmetic item. So the bottom line is, it's your car and do what you want. But I will not put one on my MM.

I'm catching on late here. Mine did not come with it. I put mine on and realize that this is how it should have been all along. I was concerned of holes as well. They are there now and since I can't see them I have forgotten about them. It really is a great option.

I like the idea of getting a used lid and adding the spoiler to it. Should be cheap-$40 to $100 at a self service salvage yard. Change it back to stock whenever. Very easy to swap.

I ran my Marauder for a year without the OEM spoiler, then 'bit the bullet' and did the install myself.
It IS scary drilling 4 holes into your Marauder's trunk lid!........ I painted the drilled holes with black touch-up paint and all went well.
I didn't want to trust the install to a local LM dealer because my neighbor (who owned a SB Marauder but never joined the site) had his spoiler installed off center by the dealer!:mad2:

Now, a spoilerless Marauder looks naked to me.

I REALLY like how the OEM spoiler looks!

I love the spoiler...I cant imagine my car without one...like my old 95 thunderbird supercoupe, it makes the car sparkle. Although I must admit that I like the mustang gt and the 500 without any spoiler, that is a "Sleeper look" that I would drive.

I like the clean look of the MMs nice trunk lid edge, looks so much cleaner in my opinion and would never get one on mine. Hopefully in the future if I happen to get a shelby gt500, I'll make sure to not have a spoiler on it, I just love the naked look back there. Would obviously need nicely tinted windows though..;)

I hate to be the bad apple of the bunch but don't get the ricer-looking spoiler. You know the one that looks like it should be on a honda somewhere. Get the OEM spoiler instead. Dude trust me on this you'll love the OEM spoiler. In fact I think all marauders should have came with OEM spoilers.

I won't drive a car with a spoiler.

99% of them are too distracting from the cars design. The same percentage are useless. The ones for the Marauder look nice though. They just aren't for me.

Mine had the spoiler on it when I got it and I'm very glad. I think it adds just the right touch to the rear of the car. It's subtle, yet it adds to the bad-boy performance vibe.
