Hi,
I have a 2004 Merc Marquis LS. Does anyone know what Oe pads are? Semi-Metallic or Ceramic? I was going to go with Oe but Merc wanted $125.00 for front set. Merc say they are semi-metallic. Raybestos or Bendix good?
Please don't yell at me for asking, I just need help making a decesion.
Thanks

I don't know what stock are but I run ceramics on everything to keep my wheels cleaner, they don't dust black. Semi metallics will dust black.

I too use ceramic on my MM. But I think the rotors need to be made of a particular "hardened" material or "Vented" to use ceramic, otherwise they would warp. Not sure. Perhaps others can educate me as well.

If you are not upgrading the brakes, I would use factory pads.:D

Ceramics should be okay with a regular rotor, the application guides for ceramic pads show they will be okay with OEM rotors.

Thanks for that clarification. That's why I'm here...to learn.

What would y'all recommend for a factory replacement pad?

You could as your dealer about Ford Motorcraft brake pads, they are made by Ford and are much cheaper. I use them on my GM. I do not know what they are made of, but there is minimal brake dust in front wheels. Some people will tell you they can be very noisy, but so far on my and friends cars and trucks they have been quiet.

Contact Ray "TheDealer" for prices. He's a vendor here and can probably get you the OE pads much cheaper.

I bought new EBC slotted/dimpled front rotors and EBC Green Stuff front pads for all less than $300.

If you're not upgrading the brakes, the best replacement is the OEM FoMoCo pads. They will last a lot longer than the Motorcraft pads.

I use the Motorcraft pads and routinely get 30-40,000 miles, and I am hard on brakes. Thats long enough for me.

Saw the pads, got a link to the rotors?

Thanks!

How did the EBC hold up through the winter? The zinc wash on my power slots went with the first road salt.

I'm going to have my brake fluid flush today so I'll hopefully see better results with the EBC rotors and pads I have because 0-40mph stops they really grab but anything over that is like I have push more than I should. I'm having a L/M service look at them to double check everything is ok. I just think I didn't bleed them enough......hopefully otherwise I'll put my OEM stuff back on.

I never get that many miles on the Motorcraft pads, but the OEM ones usually last over 60k.

I guess I'm even harder on brakes.
