Hello All.....
What criteria in the VIN # determines an 03 / 04 MM? Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks....

Example of a 2004 VIN. I believe it's the 7th position. 2MEHM79V94X611407
A 2003 would have a 5 in this location.
Using crouse's example
2MEHM79V94X611407
The 4 indicates 2004.
If there is a 3 there, it is a 2003.

here is my :twocents: The 8th digit denotes the engine the "V" is 4.6l dohc, in GM is is a "W" which obviously is a 4.6 sohc
If anybody cares:
P71 is for police interceptor
M74 is a GM GS model
M75 is a GM LS model
so I'm guessing here
M79 = Marauder ??

M79 is the '04 designation only. '03's were M75's as well. Eighth character is the engine and tenth character is the model year.

Yup... the 03s used the generic M75 LS model # and the 04s got their own M79 model #... the X before the sequence #600000 tells you that it was built at St Thomas Assy Plant There were 300A and 300B in 2003 and all 2004s are 300A for US sales and all Canadian 2003s were 300B. and that is enough numbers for now.....

Mine does too - for the Marquis! The MM says MARAUDER in bold print. We need an insurer as a vendor with group buys . . .

My insurance says " '03 Mercury Marauder" -- USAA knows !!! :D
The 7-8 digit code that they use internally to categorize the car-driver combo says "high performance".
I assume they are referring ^^^ to the car.

Ohh, this was fun today. Spent 40+ minutes on the phone with FORD trying to convince them that my vin is a Marauder, not a Marquis. Wheeeeeeeee. Why is it the Insurance company can get it right, but.......
Looks like I'm a Grand Ma too, Bunny.
Advise / comments from FoMoCo so far: It's not a Marauder. We didn't build it. Call the regular number again. "I handled this yesterday, did you call yesterday?"-to which I answered "I'm was STILL on hold".

So If I bought a Silver Marauder and painted it DTR you wouldn't know that it was not DTR all the time?
Or is there a registry somewhere, Ford archive that would say which was DTR and which was silver originally?

FORD APPARENTLY DOESN'T KNOW THEIR A** FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND. The "engineer" called it a "really nice Grand Marquis". Again, I see why American Car companies are failing.
