I don't think it would live long if temp stayed that high except for short bursts.
Personally I would add an external cooler.
On my hotrod (old MOPAR sorry) before cooler it would go up to 185-200 degrees. Tranny did not last:bigcry: .
I added large cooler and the temp stayed around 120-130 degrees even with hard driving, 145-150 degrees at track in burnout box.:burn:

i thought anything under 200 was safe ?

170 degrees is the ideal temp from what I have heard over the years from racers and tranny shops. I do not know if new cars with the new fluids used can handle higher temps. For piece of mind I would keep it as cool as possible.
a liitle help guys. We need more opinions for this issue.

From Jerry Wroblewski, ex-Ford transmission designer and "father" of the AODE/4R70W:
"The ideal temperature for the transmission to run is in the 160-180 F range. For every 20 degrees of increase in transmission fluid temperaure above 170 F, the life of the fluid is cut in half."
That temp is fine.
even with a PI converer, Im convinced the factory cooler is adequate.

Thanks RF Overlord for saying what I could not get out of my head and onto the thread
And why take a chance if a relatively inexpensive cooler can be added to save possible transmission problems:D

from my gathering the artcarr deep pan and the cooler seem to work great ,putting another cooler wouldnt hurt anything but it seems to be fine ,my temps are when im working it the hardest and it seems to be cooling very well, thanks for the input guys

I think what you are measuring is as important as the number you are reporting and is affecting the answers you are getting. Are you measuring the fluid in the pan or the fluid in the outgoing line of the transmission to the cooler?
If it's outgoing temperature in the cooling lines then it's very good since this the highest temperature the fluid sees. If this is average pan temperature, it's slightly higher than I'd like, but probably OK. But realize, the temperature in the pan is after the fluid's already been cooled. The fluid could have been 30+ degrees hotter when it exited the transmission and that all affects the life expectancy of the fluid.

its the temp coming out before its cooled

I think your temps are good for running it hard. I have a 3000 stall torque converter and I see 210F at the cooling line exit from the transmission when I'm running it hard between stop lights, and that's with a second trans cooler.
Interstate crusing is between 160 and 190 depending on ambient air temps. I don't like to run it when the ambient air temperature is in the 30s or 40s because my trans barely gets to 130-140 range, which is not optimal. I know the fluid doesn't really flow through the coolers at that temperature, but I think the deep pan and fins are keeping the fluid colder than normal when it's cold outside.

I run about 190-195 as read by OBD. Have no idea where that sensor is. Cooler bought and paid for, but not yet installed.
