Not sure quite yet what I'm going to do about my engine but when I pull it out I might as well swap out the TC. Whats in our cars and what should go back in it? I put a 2800-3000 in my GN.

Call the folks at PI, they'll suggest a TC for you based on what you have now, what you might do in the future.

I got a PI 3k. Can't say much, as it's sitting in my room along with 100 other parts I have to put on lol.

WOW, 3500 seems pretty high for a daily type driver? It doesn't bother you or hurt the car?

I used a PI 2800 for a long time and I liked it. It has just been rebuilt and is for sale. PM me if interested. I converted to a triple disc.

What is the stock lock up? Any miles on it since rebuild and if so how many?

It is a 2800.
About 2k miles on it since rebuild.
I converted to a triple disc.
This may sound stupid, but Im convinced Triple Disk converters slow the car down.
I dont like the way they propel the car from a standing start.

Maybe so, but it's installed now and I'm not gonna fool with taking it out.

What is the difference in a triple disk?

This maybe a stupid question but if the stock stall is 2800 why would I want to change TC for the same stall??

No. whether you choose 3K or 3.5K it can be tuned so that you'd really not know it's there until you MEAN to use it.
I've learning/experimenting with mine and have it very well suited for my driving style.

Because it would be a performance TC instead of a stock TC.

Sorry, I misunderstood the question. I believe the stock one is 2400. But even if it was the same stall as the stock one, it is smaller and weighs less, which allows for building rpm quicker. Among other things, such as a better clutch than the OEM one and a better torque transfer ratio.

What is the difference in a triple disk?
Three clutch plates rather than a single one. More surface area. Holds up to more horsepower. The single disk should be good up to around 500 rwhp.
The single disk should be good up to around 500 rwhp.
Thats a myth.
They are in cars wth 700+ with no problems. Just keep them cool and change the fluid.
Ive driven 2 Blown Marauders with triple disks and neither one stalled where it was supposed to. One of them was on MAcs car and we sent it in, restalled it and was checked over.
Triple Disks make the engine feel like its pulling a boat when you lauch it.

That seems strange....but then, I still don't really understand the magic of an automatic transmission, let alone a converter!

Would you say then that a single disc TC can withold the same amount of torque without slipping as a triple disc one? Why are clutch drums in the auto trans have multi disc in them if just the single one will do with no problems if they're kept cool and change the fluid regularly?

My factory TC only stalled at about 2200. I have a 3000 stall in it now. If I can do it over again, I would definitely go with 3500. These TC have lock-up clutch, so when you're cruising there's zero slippage. Just because it's a 3500 stall, it doesn't mean that you have to rev it to 3500 to get the car moving. You'll hardly notice it until you hit it and then it's nothing but tires smoking!

Well i'm getting ready to have to swap mootrs so I might as well change out the TC at that time! 3000 or 3500 is the question??????? But I want a complete daily driver and will more than likely drop a procharger on it at some point down the road?!?!?!?

If that's the case...go with the PI 3500.

how would it drive without the SC in it? It would be a while before the SC went on.

I would ask some people with the 3500 on a stock car. They all say it's much different from stock. Mine goes on this summer...but it's a 3000. My choice of power adder still is yet to be decided.
The people with the roots types, can get away with a 3000, and the people with the procharger/vortech's like the 3500. Ive driven, and riden in both supercharged set ups, with both a 3000, and a 3500. Both are very impressive.

I went with a 2800 while I was N/A, kept it after the procharger and it was great. When I got a built motor with even more power, I swapped to a 2600. Some folks say that's backward, but I got much better launches with the lower stall because it didn't blow the tires away as bad.

A 2800-3000 sounds good to me for what I know at least? And lowering the stall like you did actually makes sense, at least if you don't wanna boil the rubber oof all the time, LOL!
