MM model interest thread

I have been speaking with the sales/ marketing team at Motor Max about producing a scale diecast Mercury Marauder. So far, they have communicated they will need 6000 pieces to be purchased in order to begin production. These would be priced at $12-15 each and so far, would only be in black. I am unsure of scale right now, but for the price I'd go out on a limb and say 1:18. I need a fairly accurate number of how many units we can truly sell. I will make a simular thread on MCM and keep both threads updated. Once I figure out if we can pull this off or not, I will then look for funding and start taking pre-orders.

The stated price of $12-15 seems pretty cheap for a 1:18 scale model diecast. The current rate at Maisto, Model Masters, Exoticcar, and others ranges from about $29.95 to $69.95. Of course, the higher the quality of the reproduction, the higher the price. Franklin Mint offers some excellent 1:24 scale at $120 each.

So, I am a just a little skeptical of what a $12-15 model would look like. Heck, my son was paying $19.95 for plain white 1:18 Crown Vics that he converted into custom police cruisers with all the local graphics, lightbars, and decals, etc.

I too vote for a mix of colors, if possible.

The low price could be because your going right to the manufacturer, I've bought cases before and you usually get a real good deal that way

Yes, the low price is coming directly from the manufacturer and not going through a retail store or any middle man. I'll keep you guys updated on colors when I hear something. AutoArt, in my opinion, makes some of the best diecast models on the planet. My father and I collect diecast models and both own several examples of their work. I have contacted them directly to inquire about a Mercury Marauder product. They did a run of 2001 Bullitt Mustangs in all three colors ... and there were only 5500 Bullitts made!!

I smoked the headlights, painted the engine compartment, switched the wheels and made the front Mach 1 and rear Marauder spoilers.

A MotorMax Marauder is completely doable!

Sorry, I can't seem to get my camera to work very well up close so an up-close picture isn't possible right now.

Both of the spoilers were made from foam. After I finished the final/installed version, I noticed that I still need to do some fine trimming. To much of a point across the rear and not rounded enough at the ends.

Your camera can't focus that close. Stand further back and use a larger resolution setting, then crop and resize the picture. That will work.

I was looking pretty hard at his pics... this could be done by us.. dunno about the working lights. The seats and wheels are from the SVT Cobra, the spoilers are prob from one of the mustangs as well. The logo he could have borrowed from a merc. vehicle or he could have painted it himself... it is all def. doable if you have the time... just gotta find the crown vic plat form model to start with.

Go to policecarmodels.com for 1/18 blank crown vicks to start. I have done Phila PD Patrol cars for myself and others. I also took one and did my own conversion in silver birch. I had it on display during MVV. It took time it's not perfect but its is close.

Would they not build it knowing that they would have a couple hundred sold right here, and then market the rest the way that they market any other model?
