I found an 18" scratch down to the metal on the passaenger rear quarter panel. I think someone keyed it outside my house but I'm really not sure...anyway, I have an appointment Monday for an estimate and I was curious if anyone has had one panel painted and if yes, how did it look and how much did it cost? Thanks

Some touchup paint will do until you get it repainted ;)

How much it costs and how it looks will be determined by who does the job. Either go to a shop recommended by your insurance company or get referrals from friends.

I feel bad for ya. You maybe able to tell the deeper shade of black from the newly painted quarter depending on how the sun hits it.
My front fender was painted from the previous owner and I can tell the difference between the fender and door after waxing the car.

I seem to find new scratches on my MM all the time. No keying; thankfully! Yes I am guilty of using the brush at the self-wash place but I always clean the brush before use by spraying it well. That said I won't be using the brush anymore. The scratches are white. Since I have never really cared about a cars paint job before my MM...what is the appropriate corrective action? Like I said I won't be using the carwash (hand) brush but what about fixing the paint?

I think the MM paint must especially suck. While drive some co-workers to lunch yesterday...they really liked my MM. I told them not to say the word scratch as it would create a paint scratch somewhere on my MM. They complied but I still have two new scratches.:shake:
I try not to do dumb things but sometimes...

for an 18" scratch you're probably looking at
2-3 hour repair
2.4 to refinish
1.0~ clr coat
.5 drop the rear bumper
.4 r/i (remove/install) tail lamp
.5 to rope off rear glass
.2 car cover (mask jambs/etc)
7.8 hours total @ approx 40.00/hr (depending on your location)

so, approx $312 labor
approx $82 paint/material
------------------------
i would say around 400 if you want it done and painted right.
