2003 merc marauder, 29000Kms. One owner, who still owns it. friends with a guy who heads a local ford dealership. a buddy of mine is related to the owner therefore told me about the car.....

took it for a rip today. wow. comfortable, and powerful. exactly what i expected. however, question. There was a supercharger like whine that came from teh airbox between 4000 rpm and redline. sounded sweet but this car isn't equipped with a trilogy blower or anything, it's bone stock. stock airbox and all....

The power of the Tornado! Or it's one of those eBay Electric S/C's...

Look for the peanut butter jar lid in place of the snufflefagus doohickey.

I have the same sound... Someone actually asked me if it had a blower because of the whine heard from inside the car... I told him "NOT YET"... I did do the doohicky mod though...

That's normal for my car under WOT, both when it was stock or with my light mods. My crackpot theory is that it is the fancy coil on plug ignition system. Or maybe it's the eight fuel-injected, tiny gerbils screaming as they simultaneously approach the speed of light on their eight little wheels.

I wondered about that myself. Sounds like a S/C whine, I like it. Gives me the impression that I'm hitting "Warp speed". Your ignition theory sounds possible.

My MM has a serious whine too. @ WOT like when passing on the road. I have been meaning to look up the "whine" threads to get the background. I thought this was a rear diff thing!?!

Is it an air intake and not a tranny/axle/diff issue. what gives? You don't have to answer that...I search the threads.

I too have a whine when going WOT but it sounds to me like its in the engine compartment....and to me maybe the belt making the whine when getting up to high rmps.....I know there is a completely different whine when you have a tune coming from the alternator as it makes its own sound at WOT.
