Hello, All! Well, I went through many, many threads on the boards, but couldn’t find the exact same problem that I am having now. I have a “rear end” noise, but it seems that mine may be unique based on what I have read – however, I have heard the very same noise come from Crown Victoria cabs here in the city.

Here’s what is going on. After the car is driven for a few miles, at very low speed, perhaps between 4 and 10 miles per hour, I can hear a very loud tap-tap-tap noise from the driver’s side, rear of the vehicle. I mean it is LOUD and you can hear it echoing off buildings it’s so loud, not subtle at all! It sounds as if someone is tapping the aluminum wheels with a metal hammer! It doesn’t necessarily get any faster our louder with speed, but it simply goes completely away after 10 miles per hour. It happens much more often while decelerating and almost never while accelerating. The sound occurs when under very little load – coasting – if I’m decelerating quickly, it may not make the sound.

It’s a 300A with 4:10’s, and that’s about it for driveline modifications. (Engine programmer and tips, as well.)

I thought I’d ask about this before taking it to the shop. As I said before, I’ve heard other Panther-Platforms here in the city make the same noise, so I hope that my Ford guy will know exactly what it is.

Incidentally, I started to hear this noise very infrequently last year... But now I can replicate the noise everytime I drive it.

Best!

Oh No! Your MM is turning into a CAB!!! :D

Could be a loose brake pad or the center cap (godshead) on the wheel is loose or cracked. Check those first!

Best luck,

J

See if the e-brake cables needs tightened. I had that problem a while back.

I vote with RoyLPita and Jman. Otherwise it's a Yaris stuck in your tire tread.
