No it doesn't. New Posts will still be listed first. If you want New Posts, go to the Quick Links drop-down menu. Remember, New Posts time out after 20 minutes or so, so to see posts you've missed, you go to Today's Posts.

Mary... something HAS changed, I'm just not bright enough to describe it.
"New Posts" absolutely and positively used to be up top, every time I logged in, and it used to stay that way unless there weren't any "new posts" that day.

You're the guy who screamed when the cashier gave you 3 pennies and a quarter. You fear change don't you?

"New Posts" tracked you through a cookie. You could log out, log in later, and only see what posts had been modified. You didn't have to wade through everything posted that day.
(though it seems that "Today's Posts is acting like "New Posts")

This is what I remember and liked. Any reason that Today's post was put on the menu bar instead of New Posts? The drop down menu is a whole extra click.

I agree it is a pita to click back to home to find the new post button.

When I come to MM.net, I see a box labeled 'Preferences'. It has my avatar and says "Welcome back Agent M79", tells me the last visit date/time, then the number of 'new posts' and the words 'new post' is a link to new posts.

That's what I have been using since the change. Still a single click. And that's how I get one over on The Man.

That Agent, wadda guy, always one step ahead of The Man (or should I say the Mann....;) ).

BTW, miss you guys, wish you was still here!

Ditto....

In addition when I logged in, I would get the usual thank you screen, then the program would take me right back to the "not logged in" home page screen. Hitting refresh would make things normal.

Well, the unresponsiveness of the owners is consistant. This loss of 'new posts ' button really sucks. Used to be you could just click it from anywhere. It is a pain the ass now. I have to navigate back to the home page from where ever I am to find it.

It now lines under "Quick Links". Right up there by "Log Out".

I guess some things just didn't need changed.

What the hell is everyone's deal?
Todays posts are identical to new posts, and it gives you the feature of telling you what posts have been updated since your last visit.
Am i the only one who likes it?

Today's posts is not the same as new posts.

Zack
05-18-2007, 09:44 AM
Press todays posts, you will get a message that says XX new posts.
Lets say XX=20 Then it will give a bundle of additional posts below that that have had no activity since your last visit.

Now press New posts, you will get a message that says XX new posts, where XX=the same 20 'new posts' you got by pressing todays posts.

Whats the trouble?

Well, looky looky. I agree with Zack 100%.

I would often log in just to grab a pic or a quick instruction or a PM. I'd miss 'New Posts' I didn't check on THAT log in and my next log in would only have new posts since my last login. With the way 'Today's Posts' works, I miss far less.

Jay, from any page you can click Quick Links > New Posts. It's the same that you are used to, just an extra click.

And New Posts does not appear to recognize whether you have read any of the posts previously. All appear as unread. Also the blue arrow to the left of title of a thread listed that is supposed to take you to the first "unread" post does not work. It takes you to the first post irregardless of whether you've read it or not.

Whoever fiddled with the "do=getnew" query results fubared it real good.

Sorry to have missed your post. I was out of the country for over a week.

You're wrong about that. The nav bar at the top is the same on every page, no matter where you are, including "Quick Links." No need to navigate back to the Home Page for any links on the Nav Bar.

And Zack is right. The only difference between New and Today's is Today's also gives you, in order, the prior threads that you've read. I personally prefer Today's posts because sometimes, if I'm on long enough, New posts time out and then I miss them. Today's Posts lets me scan through that prior list to see what I've missed.

Yesterday the read - unread status was tracked in a cookie - which is how you sometimes "missed " things because the cookie has a time out built in. A new feature in VB is to track the read unread status in the database itself - we switched to that yesterday. There will be a small transition time BUT I have been using the system on my forum for quite some time and it works GREAT.
