Well, the inevitable has occurred. The once fastest NA motor has passed.
It ticked from day one, but ran like no tomorrow for several years. After a brief visit to a local body shop last month, she started to 'diesel' a bit from the lower end of the motor. I cannot be sure if these folks 'hot-lapped' my car, as I never checked milage. None the less, a new noise became apparent the day I picked it up.
I drove it hard locally 3 times in the last month, and ran it at the track over the weekend. After making a relatively uneventfull, and slow 12.7 pass, the third of the day, it stalled in the return lanes...dieseling again. It started briefly, and then stalled forever.
I had it towed some 90 miles back to the dealership, in hopes it was something electrical. It was confirmed today that the motor is indeed siezed. Nothing is leaking, and there are no holes nor cracks in the motor. No codes either. I have a source that feels I may have stretched a rod. I know nothing about motors.
Tomorrow a Ford Rep will come and examine the car, as they always do when a motor craps under warranty. I have the 7/75 platinum, and 36k on the odo.
Tomorrow I will be told my warranty is void.
Tomorrow I will park the beast under cover in a quiet, dark place.
Sadness envelops....:alone:

Sorry to hear about the engine. I would definately try to work a deal with Ford on the warranty. They might go for a new engine or even a Cobra short block at Ford cost which would be a big savings. Then take the engine and have a local shop install it. Try and find someone at the dealer or a Ford rep to work with you. I cannot believe someone at the body shop could not resist taking the MM for a "spin". You might as a last resort ask Ford to analyze your black box and try to determine if the last few minutes of driving were from you or the body shop. Good Luck.

Who was your tuner?
If your car was / is that fast I would de-tune it befor giving it to a body shop where they are gonna just kill that poor thing...like they did

If you read between the lines of some of the previous posts you'll catch on to why he ran a 12.7.
This forum is open to the public so who knows who will read any of this when they make the decide to warranty his engine or not.

No word from the dealer today....just an erie silence.
Perhaps the jury is still out...perhaps the judge merely hasn't shown up?
Ironically, I almost hope to be voided. I mean...this could happen again, and I am sure it will.
Is it better to prolong? Financially yes. But mentally?
I don't have the funds at the moment...therefore it's difficult to decide which is better.
Either way, I think it's time to clinb into the attic, dig out those old 'things' that my grandparents left me, and hit the ebay. I should be able to raise some dough over time.
Here I went and ditched the glasses and got Lasik last month. That's 2k that would have come in handy.

As a side note,
An apology to Lisa for the STFU. I have forgotten how easy it is for you to sidetrack a decent thread by poking at folks, and changing subjects. I also forgot how much I dislike it when it happens to me, particularly after not posting for so long. My wife actually had something to say to you, but was far more mature than either of us, and kept it to herself.;) BTW: Among other things, we are trying to expand our family, and looking into a much much needed 100k home expansion to do so. While I count nickles as you say, She is looking at the Audi Q7 4.2l , less 'chincy' than the Vator apparently. Must be nice to be self supporting ehh?

OPTION 1.
The first step is to get her home, and back into the barn.
Many of you know how difficult this alone will be.
It's a good thing Mark is coming over Saturday. Perhaps I can get Ken and / or Jerry to stop by as well. Pushing it up hill into the barn, and 4" off the wall should be a challenge indeed. Including trying to get the flatbed turned out front and up the narrow drive.:shake:
My barn floor is like the moon. It was suggested I lay sheet plywood down to enable pushing around a motor dolly. I figure once I decide how I am going to handle the repair, I'll have to move the car again, put it in the middle, and have Jessy park outside for a few weeks.
I'll need some advice as well regarding the ordering of a new block. I don't even know what to order, where to order, nor what this is going to cost.
I suppose the plan is to order an iron block with descent internals, and put my stuff on it. This assuming Zack is willing to be flown out here over the weekends and perform this miracle, and my ability to scratch up the funds to do so. Also working in a horrible barn enviroment, perhaps taking weeks/months to complete.
OPTION 2.
Allow the dealer to open the motor, find the problem, correct the problem and use oem parts...on my dime of course. Remove the NOS entirely, and drive NA as I did for years. The issue here is, that I know there are some internal normal wear issues to many parts common due to failure on ALL Marauder motors that will need to be addressed.
Question:
In keeping the aluminum block, are there better parts that I can order and provide to the dealer, that may extend NA engine life?
Well? What do you folks suggest?
OPTION 1, OR OPTION 2?
The question is which would you be happier with? Being inconvenienced with option 1, or settling for what the car was? And really how much cheaper will option 2 be? I say talk to Zack, see what you can work out. I'd be willing to help in any way that I can, like run to the fridge for beer! :D, run out for tools/ supplies/ beer. Are you going to be able to get a flatbed or trailer up your drive? What about a winch, park a big 4x4 at the top of drive and pull MM up? I'll be available after 3:30 on Sat.
Ken
Just remember this Barry, it would cost you about $500 to get your car to my house, where it will be completely out of your sight and mind.
When its done, hitch a ride out with Steve, stay the weekend, drive it home.
The cost of getting me out there, driving or flying, will easily equal $500.
Choice is yours, but Im better setup to fix your car at my place!

We're thinking the NOS stretched a rod over time. I actually used it a lot. Even though I only drove the car 5000 miles over the last 18 months, I hit the NOS nearly once a week. However, I haven't raced since MV-III.

You did check the starter, right? How did you confirm that it is "locked up"?

I dunno John. I am not motor oriented like some of you.
However, the dealership DID verify that the motor is indeed "LOCKED" and there is some type of internal problem. They had it for several days now, and were kind enough to keep it indoors on a lift, and bill me only a small labor fee for diagnostics.
I assure you that when Zack opns it up, he will document and share his findings with all of us.
I have optioned to trailer the car myself to Illinois, and have Zack work his magic. I am still a little fuzzy with the tow, and certainly not up on the funds yet.
I am going to start a new thread in regards to trailering.

Just get the car to Fremont, Indiana for FREE and start there. ;) :jk:
I would opt for your Option #2. Seems to be the least hassle of the two from my perspective. That'll get you back to what you were (or close to it as possible). That's probably the low cost option as well.
If your goal is to go above and beyond your N/A position and you have the time, resources, and patience to do it -- then OPTION #1 will put you on the right path at a higher cost in time and money.
Bottomline: It really depends on where you want to go as the next step in MM modification and whether you have the time and money to make it happen.
