Well....I came across one today. It was definately an early one since it had the 5.7 badge on it, and it didn't have the hood scoops, I believe it was automatic too. He did win though unfortunately even though I somewhat kept with him. Were the early GTO's fast though? I heard of some people saying they were dogs (compared the the new ones though) and I'm pretty sure he had some mods since the exhaust note sounded very good and loud. Any of you run across GTO's? If so, did you win? I wonder if I had my full exhaust and my converter on if I could have won?

Raced one at US 13 Dragway earlier this month in trophy class time trials . It ran a 12.52 quarter mile time but had some mods....

Early Goats were badged in Cubic Inches not Liters. ;)
One took me out at Union Grove and it went 12.2. It seemed to have a lot more on the high end. Talked to the guy and he had changed cams and gear. They are fast!

I was wrong :o The '64 and later GTOs were badged as 6.5 litres (that converts to 396.66 cubic inches). They were advertized as 400 cid which is closer to 6.55 liters.

The best GTO's ever made, especially the Hurst Edition.

04 GTO's had the LS-1 engine which put out 350HP and 362TQ. You can tell the 04 by the single exhaust and the 5.7 badge.
By 05 the GTO came with the LS-2 engine with 400HP, 400TQ, dual exhaust and a 6.0 badge.
I tangled with a 05 and was right with him til around 65MPH, then he pulled away from me and I couldnt keep up.
Im pretty sure I could dust a 04 GTO with ease.

Well I remember that video you had a while back with you racing a GTO and I thought you won? I never did figure out why Pontiac put a single exhaust on the first style GTO's.

Ahhh..... the GTO. Because you like how the Cavalier looks, and you can't afford a 'vette.

I was ahead of him by a bumper, probably a lot more if I would have hooked up as you can hear in the video but with over a mile of track, I was no match.

I goat I raced today was a 6.0 With a new owner (It still had the temp plate) We ran from a 25 roll He jump me buy almost a car but I had the bottle on and my new found torque reeled him in and when he shift gears I was gone.I figure with my 80 shot Im good for high or middle 13`s so maybe on the strip he would still beat me........I`ll take it.:D Plus I had two people in the car with me.

The 2004 GTO had dual exhausts, they just exited on the same side.

My father just bought one of the last 06 GTO's (has the scoops and the 400hp 6.0). I drove it. What a scream machine. For me, Pontiac got the sound perfect. This is exactly what a muscle car should sound like. Much more bassy without droning and not as thrashy as my Stang. Music to my ears.
Most are running in the mid 13's out of the box. It would take next to nothing to drop this thing into the 12's.

Just a note about the 04 GTOs, they were actually dual exhaust, the pipes just exited from one side. 3 series BMWs have similar exhaust setups if you ever looked underneath one. Aussies just do things differently I guess. The change to make the pipes exit at both sides was soley due to US demand.
