View Full Version : Having some trouble with my Idle

About a week ago my car was idling like absolute crap and i had thought that I had gotten a batch of bad gas. So I dropped the fuel filter and cleaned my air filter and MAF sensor. Today the car was running much better but still had a rough idle and was hesitated at certain rpms (2700, 3400) Sometimes the idle is perfectly smooth and it seems fine throughout the rpm range other times the idle is all over the place and it stumbles into and at certain points in the rpms. I went by autozone and had them plug into the computer (i only have the Xcal 1) They reported a miss from my # 1 cylinder. I checked the plug out and it looked practally brand new so I got a new coil from ford and put it in there. It runs much better, no hesitation through the revs but the idle is still crappy at times. If the car is idling funky it will still stumble up until about 2200 rpm and the exhaust note sounds bogged down. Other times its fine. Is this an IAC sensor? I really hope its not a clogged injector that is causing the misfire.
Any help would be great

How many miles on those injectors? Did you find contaminates in the Gas? If so... I would look at trying to flush the injectors with a cleaner. Does it get better when the engine warms up? If the temp. affects the idle... I would look at "spark". Is it possible that the whimpy spring we have in the coil, is broken, bent or not making good contact with the plug. Have you changed plugs or inspected the plugs lately? It may be that the spring is not seated properly. Hope this helps. Aloha
How about a can of Sea Foam?

What is sea foam? Btw I did use chevron fuel system cleaner and gumout fuel injector cleaner in my last 2 tanks. I did replace the coil on the suspect #1 cylinder and I inspected them all. I changed the plugs 6,000 miles ago and after inspection they still look brand new. Could it be possible that I had a weak coil which triggered the Check Engine Light and am still in need of something else such as an IAC valve or new O2 sensors?

You would have probably spent less $$ having it diagnosed than the $$ you spent on the coil it may not have needed.
Stop replacing parts and have it checked out by someone who has the equipment to diag it.

Yeah, I know. I thought I had it nailed after I went to autozone and they told me it was a misfire on Cyl #1. Cylinder #1 is the one on the passenger side closest to the Radiatior right? Maybe I was wrong......... :o
