Got in my Marauder last night and the steering wheel felt really weird. Backed out the dreiveway, turned the wheel and feel this big knock in the steering wheel.

Car drives fine, no vibrations. Same thing this morning.

Any input?

Just what I friggin' need at 40,000 mi.

I have it on my Daily driver.

I just ignore it.

Down at the steering rack there is a double universal joint connecting the column to the rack...Next time it's in for a service or if you have access to a hoist...Lubricate the heck out of it with some white grease...clunk will go away.

I had this problem on mine, and all the steering linkage between the wheel and the box was replaced at about 30K under warranty.

This also sounds like it could have a bad tie rod end at the rack and pinion. they will make a clunk like that. You should have a front end shop check it out.

I'll jack her up tonight and give everything a good wiggle and see what's up. I guess a tie rod end would be an "all-of-a-sudden" thing.

I am out of warrenty, so I am on my own. And need a $6,000 roof put on the house this month <*?%#^@!

Check the inner tie rod ends.

Depends how big a "clunk" it is. If it is just something you feel when turning the wheel it's common with most tilt wheel set ups, at least in my experience.

If you actually hear a clunk it may be an overly loose steering linkage u-joint or something else as described in posts above.

I'll bet you have a "Ricer" stuck in your steering somewhere!!

Have the steering intermediate shaft checked. If your not sure take it to the dealer. Remember this is steering your talking about, don't dick around with it.

I know what ''clunk'' hes talking about. Difficult to describe for me, but some of you hit the nail on the head.

My front end is completely fine. No issues to report. I will definatly try the listed recommendations here.

You guys are gonna' LOVE This..................

VERY simple. There is a cable that routes under the steering shaft in the engine compartment. This cable goes to the tranny, and has a 'C' clip on it.

Well, somhow, the cable worked its way loose from the bracket under the steering shaft and the 'C' clip was contacting the square shaft. Funny how such a small thing can feel so strong.

I re-routed the cable under the appropriate bracket and zip-tied it for good....

I could see a shiny spot on the steering shaft where the cable must have been rubbing for some time. Then the c-clip came in contact with the shaft and gave my wheel that "Klunk" feel.

Goofy stuff out there.....

Hope this helps someone else....

It helped me. Just this morning I felt the steering shaft scrape along this C-Clip. I found the cable up against the steering shaft, but it took me some time to see where it was supposed be secured to. I tucked it in behind a small bracket attached to the fenderwell. If it comes loose again, I will re-secure with zip ties. This was a road fix and I did not have any tools or supplies with me. Later on after I fixed it, I searched this website to confirm what I found. You guys are great. Thanks for being here and contributing to the Marauder community!

Yeah you know you need that roof. Snow is on the way and you don't need ice in house!!

Funny how things happen.
I read this thread the other day and didn,t think much of it until I took my little girl for a drive in the MM. I have not been driving it much and it has been kept out in the damp and cold. When I turned to get onto the highway it felt like I lost my power steering but worse because the wheel would jam up while turning.
When I got home I lubed the linkage and now it feels better, But wow what a scare
