went to the dealer today(i hate the dealer), i talked about earlier how my windshield wipers were working by themselves, so i went and dropped the car off so they could replace the windshield wiper motor. They told me it was going to cost $470! keep in mind i have an extended warranty through Gaurdian(which i see was pointless). They said my warranty only pays $65 an hour for labor(they charge $100 an hour) and would only pay the part, not the full labor, the diagnostic(which i dont know why they did no lights were on) and they said they had to clean the drain which is supposed to keep water and debris from going to the wiper motor.... did i get screwed?
Did you get kissed? Who sold you the warranty and why dont they pay the prevailing labor rates? Those are the questions to ask. Did they tell you that you are co insuring the warranty policy

Damn tell me u at least got dinner and a movie first!!!!!!!!
Hey i got some land in Irac and a broken piano with no keys u mit be iterested in???????????????????
Marty I think that he would have to pay for part of the cigarette as the policy does not cover the extra frills! He should complain to the warranty company about this.

they gave me a cig but wouldn't light it for me....they did offer some free prep H for the pain though! i am going to call the warranty company because i dont know of ANY shop charging $65 an hour for labor, maybe that worked 10 years ago.

Which dealership did you take it to? A very good Lincoln/Mercury dealer that would be close to you would be Safford L/M, I bought my MM from them and have had them do some minor work with not one problem.
$100 an hour for labor is crazy, I know the closest Ford dealer to me charges like $75-80 an hour for labor.

did you buy the car at that dealer, if so push the labor rate issue. I have expierence with aftermarket warranties and most of them are bad. They usually try to cut labor rates (or only pay factory warranty rates and labor times) and do not pay diagnostic time. It is ridiculous that the customer should pay diag for items covered. They also won't pay for an alignment after replacing bad tie-rod, ball joint, etc... they consider that maintenace.
Most won't even pay for brake rotor or pads if caliper locks up.
Whenever possible always I repeat always get factory extended warranty.
I know most Marauders are out of basic 3/36, but if you are within that period you can buy an extended warranty direct from FORD online. Saves the hassle and markups from *****heads, oops I mean sales people

Yes, royally. I had two wiper motors replaced. Both under the "Original" warranty and the total price for both was NOTHING at all. Zip, Zilch, Nada, $0.00.

My Wife's Sables' Extended Warrant Is The Almost The Same. They Don't Pay For More Than $65 Of Diagnostic Time, And They Won't Pay The Sales Tax. I Made Sure When I Bought The Marauder's (no Deductible) That It Covered Every Expence.

alot of dealers on Long Island are very close to $100 some I have heard some are more.
It's not just the brand of car you drive, all the dealers expenses decide the labor rates ie: rent, utilities, special tools, salaries, advertising, taxes etc....
Plus there is a serious shortage of qualified technichans. As manufacturers drop warranty times paid ,it hurts the techs in the wallet. The smart ones are getting out the the business and moving on.

You are getting *****.
My brother and I replaced the wiper motor on his Marauder and it only took us two (2) hours and we never did it before. We also went very slow. A Ford tech should be ashamed if it takes him that long to do it. A remanufactured wiper motor from Ford cost us $75.
Now, even if your dealer charges $100 per hour and it takes them the same two ours that it took my brother and I, then that should only total $200 for labor. Since your insurance covers $65 per hour you will be left with a balance of $70 for labor.
From the $70 balance for the labor, how are they getting to $470? Are they charging you $400 for a part that they get for under $70?
The cleaning of the cowl is also a bull***** charge. In order to replace the wiper motor the cowl needs to be removed anyways and cleaning it out takes an extra 1 minute if you are going SLOW.

When I was with FORD a good tech could replace the wiper motor in about 1/2 hour without removing the wiper transmission assembly all the way.
The parts dept I'm sure charged more than list price, and probably used a new one.
As far as the labor charge dealers along with most auto shops charge flat rate going by the MOTOR book time. This is legal and proper. After all a technichan should not be penalized for knowing how to do the job quickly (after doing the same job many times)
Side note
did you guys know that doctors and dentists have a similar book for getting paid from our medical insurance, but charge us much more and expect us to pay the difference (like they are getting short changed)
Advancedautosec please give us the breakdown between parts and labor along with the part number (to see if new was used)

You are proving my point.
First, if you walk into a Ford Dealer's Parts Department and ask for a MM Windshield Wiper Motor you will get a Remanufactured one. This is the same one that a tech will install in your car if you have it serviced.
Secondly, like I said, even if it does (which it shouldn't) take the tech two hours to change the wipor motor there is no way to get a bill for $470.
Follow the breakdown:
+ labor at the dealer's ridicules rate $100 per hour x 2 hours=$200
- labor covered by after market warranty $65 per hour x 2 hours=$130
Total balance owed for labor:$70
That leaves $400 for the part that I know cost a dealer less than $70.
By the way, didn't he say that his after market insurance covers the cost of the part?
If so, the dealer simply cheated him and added a $400 charge to the bill.

i will post the actual bill so you guys can see how it happened, but it breaks down like this and its pretty vague; $175.58 total parts(didnt my warranty cover that)it was 133.18 for the Motor Asy and 42.40 for the Wiring Asy. Then it says 635.12 total parts and labor, so thats close to $450.00 in labor. shop supplies are 49.95 and the total invoice says 696.15? yet i paid $458.97? i guess my warranty company picked up the rest? i still havent called them i need to call them MONDAY.

A local MM owner I talked to paid about $750 for a new motor & harness, installed by our L-M dealership. I think it was 2 years ago. Included free coffee & tee-vee in the customer lounge.
Seems he told me he complained, and they gave him a discount from what he paid. Our local Ford dealer charges 20 to 25% over list for parts used on your car by the service department.

1st
the added wiring needed is reseaonable (when FORD sells reman parts sometimes there are harnesses necc, this is so same part can fit many cars)
2nd
argue the shop supplies (in NY there is not alot any shop can charge bull***** charges for) I repeat :argue: fight, fight, fight (not literally of course) and then threaten to complain to your states DMV they should reduce it greatly or remove it.
3rd
as I see it you should only have paid the balance after the warranty company paid their portion
example:
parts $178.58
labor $200.00 (assuming $100/hr at 2 hrs)
tax ??
total $378.58 plus tax
now minus what the crappy extended warranty paid, and balance is yours to pay. Should have been alot less than the $458.97 you paid.
4th
only speak to the service manager or service director if there is one
good luck, you will need it.
let us know how it turns out.
