View Full Version : Fattest/lowest series tires you can put on 16" steelies?

I'm converting my Marauder into a CVPI clone, and I was wondering what the highest-performance tires you could put on 16" steelies were? Has anyone seen bigger rims that look exactly like steelies (and where would I get the center caps for them?)? I don't want to raise my CG too high with high-series tires, but I also don't want only a millimeter of rubber/air between me and the potholes. Also, my car already has Eibachs on the front end. Thanks for any ideas/suggestions . . .

........why? You could use Cragar Soft 8's. I like the look of those.

I second that.

Cragar soft 8s come in larger sizes I believe... 17s, right? They will look (to an untrained eye) exactly like "cop wheels". Get on crownvic.net and search on cragar soft 8 and you will find the info you need.

I need to make a CVPI clone so I can turn my car into a "federal agent" cop car, complete with lights, strobes, and government plates. I need to use my Marauder as a picture car for a short film I'm making for myself. I was going to buy a used LAPD CV, but I figured, why don't I just turn my Marauder into one? Cheaper, and I've always preferred the CVPI honeycomb grille anyway. Any ideas on the tires for the steelies anyone? Does anyone have a picture of the Cragars--do they look like steelies?

Thanks for the tips, guys. But I think I like these American Racing wheels better.

The biggest size they come in is only 18". 'Course they're not available in our offset. What is our offset again?

Well, the Cragars are close, and cheap, too! But where do I order real Ford steelies? That's probably what I'll end up getting anyway. The biggest size steelies come in is only 16" right?

Okay, so apparently Ford started offering a 17" x 7.5" steelie for 2006-2007 Crown Victorias. Can't really find a picture of them online. Found one place online that had them for $130 each, but no picture, so I don't know if it's the right wheel. Also, they had the center caps and "Ford" appliques, but stated no "set" quantity, so I don't know if you need to order '4" or just '1' of those "parts." As soon as I can find them to order them (is Ray "The Dealer" still here?), I'm going to put BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS' on 'em in the following sizes (need to confirm they fit on a 7.5" rim okay, and check if the diameter differential is close to the stock set-up):
FRONTS: 245/45ZR/17 REARS: 255/50ZR/17
I currently have Nittos NT-555s on my stock Marauder wheels at these sizes:
FRONTS: 245/40ZR/18 REARS: 255/45ZR/18
The 40-series fronts are a little extreme on bumpy roads, so I upped the series by '10' for both the front and rear BFGs for the 17" steelies.

Crager Soft 8s do not have a suitable offset for 03+ cars, they will stick out too far.

Sorry to bump this thread, but does anyone have the correct part number for the 17" 2006-2007 Crown Vic steelies, and do the center caps come four to a set or individually?

Well, here are the specs for the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS in my planned sizes for the 17" x 7.5" 06-07 steellies:
Size . . . . . . . . . Rim width . . . . .Diameter . . . . Max load
245/45ZR/17 . . . 7.5" - 9.0" . . . . 26.1" . . . . . . .1521@44
255/50ZR/17 . . . 7.0" - 9.0" . . . . 27.1" . . . . . . .1819@44
So, it looks like the rim fitment is right, and the front-rear differential seems about right at exactly one inch.
