Marauder Top Speed ... How is it Limited?

I read somewhere that the stock Marauder's top speed was limited to about 120. How is it limited (drag limited, computer, governor, etc.)??? I did a search and found posts about Marauders going 145mph with 4.10's (seems like a bit of hyperbole to me).

I did a thread when I first joined here I think it was named "WTF, does my car have a tune?" since my MM was bone stock and only had 13k on the clock and I had it up to about 130.

The Stock ECU Program limits speed to near 127.

Aftermarket "Tunes" remove this.

I had mine to 123 MPH before the tune. That is where the limiter cut in and shut the fuel down. I have not tried to find the top again but it was still pulling at 130 MPH (after tune). A FHP friend told me that his would do and he had been to 168 MPH chasing a motorcycle. :)

In the patrol car the radar can tell you your speed well after the speedo runs out.;)

My factory tune reduces the engine torque output by 50% at 127 and then 100% at 130. I found the table for it with my Sniper Delta Force software. I changed my value to only cut off 100% if I reach 255 MPH, which will be never, lol.

You need the after burner mod to reach 255 mph.

The driveshaft will begin to 'vibe, and eventually fail once it hits crtical speed.

Factory speed limiter is well before the driveshaft critical speed.


If you're going to be doing top-speed runs, a tailshaft bushing forced-lube mod, a 00 CVPI AMMC driveshaft, and a Metco d/s loop are a must - IMO



Ford recently developed a new driveshaft for the 07+ CVPI to allow the speed limiter to be raised on 3.55 RAR units (01-06 w/ 3.55s used the same aluminum shaft as all CVPIs, top speed was patheticly low due to driveline critical speed) as I am told it is just a larger diameter, it is not a AMMC shaft like the 00's

Have never seen ^^^ posted here. Dave/MI2QWK4U's run at Michigan International Speedway a couple years ago was listed as 155 MPH. He posted a pic of him passing a Cobra "on the inside". That is the highest that I can recall. Where'd the other numbers come from?

When my car was stock I was able to run 125MPH and the limiter would shut the engine down and then kick back on at around 115MPH, I have since installed 4.10's and removed the limiter and my top speed record is 138MPH and it was still slowly climbing but I ran out of road.

BTW, No vibrations, stock driveshaft.

My speed limiter was limited to 125 B.T. (Before Tune) I have had it up to 130 and chickened out and slowed down, but she still had plenty...

From the factory I believe the car is computer limited to 117 mph. After the tune from Lidio, where the limiter was removed, I took the car up to 215 KMh and may have had a bit left. Now that I have 4.10's , I'd be lucky to get 190 KMh.

Just a couple of suggestions....
4:10s are personal taste, I prefer the 3:55s for top end, but went with a mild upgrade to 3:73s.

Skip the driveshaft, big waste of money. Just find a reputable shop that can high speed the aluminum driveshaft you already has. I have had mine up to over 165mph on a Nascar Oval track with my balanced shaft with no problems, will save a lot of money.

My butt starts puckering up at about ninety. Did 94.5 mph at MVIV race day and I could taste myself. What a rush.

That being said.....
At the track under WOT Blue Thunder was just hitting third gear right before crossing the finish line. I have no trouble believing that Marauders are capable of ludicrous speed, expecially supercharged with balanced driveline etc.
