There is no 4.44:1 ratio for a Ford 8.8" rear.
You can buy a 4.10:1 , a 4.30:1 , and even a 4.56:1.
It all boils down to fuel economy and cruising RPM....If you drive on the highway often, a 4.6 liter V8 buzzing along at 3,000 rpm will get old pretty quick.

Ford doesn't offer a 4.44 gear. I think 4.10, 4.30 & 4.56 are the only options for the 8.8 rear end that are close to 4.44:1.

The driveshaft balancing and cruising RPM are the main reasons people don't go over 4.10.

I have seen the large number of 4.10 mods that you all have been doing but I'm just wondering why you don't use 4.44 gear mods instead?
The Subaru Forester XT (don't race one if you are stock) uses a 4.44 final gear ratio.
Why wouldn't a Marauder?
4 bangers don't mind the revs, and half the cylinders = better MPG

Ask Marauderman about his 4.30's.

And BillyGMan about his 4.56's. Now the current owner is Drewstang.

For those who are not performance oriented, the 2.73s which are standard on CV and GM are adequate...I had a 2003 P72 with those gears and it would pull a trailer, even in VT.

You should take into account the much taller 18" rear tires (28.6") that are fitted to the Marauders.
You can run a higher gear and still have the same cruise rpm as a 16" CV/GM.

I enjoy overkill usually and was considering 4:56s at one time....but when chatting with a local speed shop owner that does a lot of gear swaps, he absolutely will not install anything other than FRPP 4:10s. He strongly prefers them for longevity, sturdiness, dependability, lack of noise and general customer satisfaction.

Still have the 4.56 gears. I like the extra "oomph" off the line the taller gears have.

Why wouldn't a Marauder?
Simple. No 5th gear.

Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the group (Picked up a stock '04 B Marauder just over two weeks ago - after a few years of dreaming about it...), and have been lurking for a bit now. The gearing (with tune) seems to be a pretty key upgrade, so I can't help but ask a few things, I drive local - but can do a LOT of highway; all pretty random:
What are the typical rpms your seeing with the 4.10's in the 60 - 80 cruising range? I think I'm seeing 1,200-1,500 stock (in any event easily under 2K - obviously doesn't break a sweat at those speeds).
Someone mentioned having gone to 3.73's? Is this a good choice for mixed use? Good launch oomph and highway drivability? Is there a Lidio/Rienhart tune for this gearing?
I should probably dig through the archives a bit more, but I figured I'd ask.
BTW, considering 11,052 production, this site is so beyond awesome - I am truly amazed.

You'll be running 100 to 200RPM's higher with the 4.10's.
You won't even notice a difference w/ 3.73's since the stock gears are 3.55's.
IMHO... 4.10's are the way to go... big difference between 4.10's and the 3.55's... 4.10's will give you good driveability.

Wow, what a great site.
A few members have the 3.73's including Juno.
For a speed/rpm comparison, use this:
http://www.magindat.net/ssm/info/4r70wratios.xls
Type in your final drive and your Revs/mile on the tire (available from tire mfg's web site) and make an educated decision.

X2. 4:10's are great, improved aceleration, little impact on highway mileage, but got to admit, my in-town mileage has dropped, gears are a "symptom" not the cause of that.....Love when those red lights turn green!:D

And one, really weird member had to go and buy 3.90s....:D

The 3.90 seems to split the difference debate for local/highway - but no Ford Racing OEM on that one, and it does seem rare in these parts...
In additon to selecting the gearing, finding a solid outfit to properly obsess over the install will be another challenge. I wish I could do this particular job, but the fine tuning and "feel" for it is beyond me.

Nothing wrong with 4.30's and 4.56's,
We have 4.30's in my wife's daily driver cobra. It has 0 whine and is excellent. At 80mph its 3050rpm's. At 65 its 2500. Thats with short 285/40/18 tires.
If my Marauder was my "toy" car and not for business I'd have at LEAST 4.30's in it. I put 3.73's in it because the cost for me was next to nothing and they were layin around. Even then they feel very tall.
So I have a 04 Crown LX Sport but have done some Marauder mods to it most importantly the wheels. I am running 18 inch Marauder wheels...My question is that I want to install 4.10 gears but I am not sure what RPMs I would be running at 75mph?

Don't know if the power curve on the CV engine is the same as the MM, but FWIW, I run about 2,500 rpm at 75 mph.

There is a ton of info on rpm's vs. gears - but I think the CV tranny gears may be different as well - as is definitely the rear tire size ...which will make the "thrust" feel different and the rpms will not be the same as a MM. But check these links, you can modify a lot of these parameters to suit the CV, BTW all of these links are already on this site and were either put-together and/or posted by other members: <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
