View Full Version : Brake Problems?

Well I decided today to go ahead and paint my brake calipers. I have a DTR '04 so I couldn't find any caliper paint in DTR instead I bought a can gloss black engine enamel to stick to the calipers under hot temps and a can of DTR paint to coat over it. It came out looking great a perfect match to the car behind the wheels. So I took the car for a spin to check out the reflection off of glass windows and it drove fine, and on the way home there's a harsh movement and noise to follow when shifting out of park and into reverse. So I try again and nothing. I'm no car wiz so I thought nothing else of it. When I got home I tried to reproduce the sound with a success. It seems to be a braking problem. The brakes scrub in drive and reverse under quick and sudden stops and they seem to not be able to catch grip without noise and a little unsmooth movement although it still brakes. Can anyone help me out or think of an explanation/solution to my problem? Could it be that the engine enamel paint was too much for the brakes? Or Will it just take a period of usage for them to readjust?

Is the area where the pads come into contact with the calipers clear of paint ?
If there is paint in that area, it will cause the pads to hang up.

would appear that the paint is inhibiting the free movement of the pads on the calipers...never-seize is better than paint for that purpose...and as is true for women... looks ain't everything. Function is more important..

If you paint the calipers with spray paint you should remove the pads before painting so the pads don't stick to the calipers.

Did you remove the Calipers from the Car?
Did you remove the Pads from the Calipers?
Did any Paint get on the Rotors?
Did any Paint get on the Pads?
Do the Pads move freely in the Caliper?
With the Pads and Caliper installed in the Car, can you freely rotate the Rotor?
