Has any one relocated the oil filter ? If so to where and what are the part #s needed ? Oil over everything is getting old. Would there be any down falls ?

PM MarauderJack. I believe he did this.

GordonB, and I did a lot of homework, and he finally purchased a kit, only to chicken-out when it came to installing it. Joe Walsh uses a very sophisticated system with reservoirs & such on his "built" motor; but I'm of the impression it's a tough call, when buying one of the kits and installing it. Space, and location to get a vertical install seem to be the biggest obstacles. Knocking off a filter on a speed bump is the dreaded consequence of a front frame rail install. Hoses, too, with the various fitting options had us scratching our heads. Do a search on GordonB posts from about a year ago, and do some reading. I think it was a lengthily and informative thread with lots of input, especially interesting are Joe Walsh's posts, as I recall.

I put my remote in front of the driver's side front wheel......used a Trans-Dapt kit and it works well.....just need 48" hoses to run them like I did!!:argue:

I can post some photos if interested??

Pictures would be great. What type of hoses and clamps did you use. I've heard 100psi on cold start up.

What is a oil filter drain # 5WIZ-6N634-AA ? Does any one have pics?

The lines they supply are swivel end type (300 PSI) so you can tighten them easily but they tend to leak a little in time so I just had a set of SS Hi-Pressure (2500 PSI) made and that cured the leaks!!:bows:

You can probably buy the block adapter and the remote and have your own lines made??

I lost about 5 PSI with the system but it was worth it to get away from the mess of the OEM filter location!!:shake:

I'll find some pix and post them for ya!!

I hope you don't leave it there. I guessing it is mounted up higher so the bottom of filter is not lower than radiator support.

No it was not left to drag on the ground

Sorry, it was not meant as an insult. ^This picture^ makes more sense than 1st one.
By the way, what is that black round cylinder in front of the tire?

I never took it as a insult, and the black motor is the after cooler electric watter pump

Dennis, thats a great location for keeping the filter cool. Would you foresee any problems in a real cold winter environment from that location?

Relocation of the oil filter look great. I like the idea of the stainless steel lines. What size and length are they what type of end do I ask for and do I just go to a hydraulic shop to have them made? What did you pay for them ? What are the chanches of damage from stones being kicked up from the tire or ice and snow durring winter season as mentioned ?

Does anyone know if hydraulic lines are a viable option for remote oil filter installs?

I have a friend that used them for the oil lines on his big block '55 Chevy, no problems. Hydraulic lines usually handle a much higher PSI load then oil pressure lines, so I don't see a problem except they don't look as good as braided lines.

Thanks for the reply . I thought they would be fine, and since all the other hoses in the engine bay are black they would look ok.

I put mine on the inside drivers side frame rail. I have an 04 so there was no bracket welded to the frame there. I used the transgo kit but quickly found that the hoses would not stand up to the 100+psi durring the winter. I switched to ss braided lines and fittings using brass fittings for the tight bends needed to have the filter so close to the motor. Everything is ported and polished internally, esp the brass. There are some blury pics in my gallery before the ss hoses. BTW the filter gets a lot of air in that location! good for cooling!.

One more BTW. If you change your own oil go to http://www.fumotousa.com/ an ditch you oil plug. You will not regret it!

What number?

BigCars4Ever

It was propably F-106 according to the charts. I didn't get the nipple which I think adds an 'N' to the end of the part number.

Thanks Big! I'm planning on putting mine in the same location. The oil drain valve looks interesting. I might do that. From their appl table the part # is F106. Look here: http://www.lubricationspecialist.com/front/shop.aspx?catid=3&parentid=0&curr_page=2

I'm thinking of the hydraulic hoses because northern tools has a retail location down by the Florida Mall on Sandlake which stocks 1/2" lines with hose ends in place, for what I think is less $ than SS braided plus fittings. I think the hose will screw into the adapters without more than a 90 degree elbow or two (to clear the radiator). I'm still in the planning stages.

IIRC don't hydraulic fittings use an o-ring to seal? The transflow needs pipe thread style fittings. Also, where I put the adapter the hoses are short and hard to work with, plan twice. I had the luxury of starting with a hose that was too long and iteratively trimming until it fit.

cold weather will be no more a problem than if it was mounted on the engine.

Here is another idea, if you want serious filtration:

I'd like to do this next spring if I have the $$$

As far as I could determine, the liner in standard hydraulic hose is not compatible with automotive engine oil.

I checked in a Gates hose catalog, and they recommend different hoses.

I had a pair of 25K PSI hydraulic hoses made for my Trans-Dapt setup.....Teflon tubing with SS mesh outside!! They cost TWICE as much as the original kit but I was tired of the leaks!!:mad2:

I have. I put a garbage bag around it after it is loose.

The factory makes a splash guard, but it will not fit w/ the OP Sender.

Is the only reason to make it easier to access?

In my case....YES!!

My blower tubing is in the way and it requires bending the power steering lines to get the filter out.....so I relocated it!!:D

I pay a Ford service facility $27.95 per oil change, every 3rd change is free so 3 changes cost me less than $19 per change. It is a small facility only 10 bays and I get to fully inspect the underside of my car at every change.

I have the factory splash guard and while it helps there is still a little mess to clean up.

I like your garbage bag idea and will give it a try in 3k miles (just changed the fluid this weekend.)

I just installed the Filter Drain Do-Hickey I got from Wes.

It worked well untill I dropped the used Filter

Then...a quick trip to the Laser Wash for an Undercarriage Wash...and all was good :D

FWIW, I'm giving up on the off-the-shelf hydraulic hose idea. The hoses are too stiff for the limited space I have available, as I am also going to install on the inside driver's frame rail.

Yeah, that would be cool. I work downtown, so could easily hop on the 408 and meet you somewhere...isn't there a Hooters out by Waterford, right next to the 408? :D
