My Pioneer AVIC D2 has a backup camera mounted above/behind the upper left license plate screw. The cable was routed through the factory loom/harness, and is very stealthy. Photos are in my gallery.

I'm considering buying one of these:

Should I mount the camera on the license plate as is suggested and hook into the reverse light wire (to activate) or should I mount it in the back window, next to or above/below the high brake light and wire it into the reverse light down the backseat and through the trunk?
Any thoughts on this? Anyone have one?
I have the wired one that was out before they went wireless. Since would have to pull up some trim and carpet and chase down correct wires have not installed it yet.
But the camera portion you want to mount to the license plate, to get more viewing range.

We sell them at work and work ok but the image isn't perfect be warned..sometime looks like reception from the old Rabbit ears. Also have picked up signals from wireless baby monitors....neighbors....but idea and product generally ok.

should be mounted at plate height, mounted on the rear package tray it will give you blind spot to the area you need to see.

Don't do anything in front of the camera that you dont want the rest of the world nearby to see... ;)

Don't leave the main unit plugged in if you are parked for more then a week. The same camera system drained my E150 battery.

I would hook it up to the reverse light with a small relay so that the main unit only turns on when you put it into reverse. I always have to remember to pull the main units cig lighter plug out when I'm done.
For a daily driver you can probably get away with leaving it plugged in. For a weekly/monthly driver you will darin the battery.

i did a kickass camera install a few months ago with my kenwood nav/xm system. It's wired though and yeilds great results. I ran the wire through the trunk, under the seats and carpet during my speaker install. It went above the left license plate screw into the trunk. Very stealthy....no one can see it unless they get down there and look. I wired it up to be always on though....not just in reverse....teehee....

Thanks Rich, i needed that. I thought i might have to take off the center console to find the right wire.
