After careful consideration and reading the post (sorry, don't remember who wrote it) with step-by-step instructions, I installed new oil pressure and voltmeter gauges. I also called the gauge company and was told the same info as was provided in this forum about the non-functional oil pressure gauge (being built to those specs at Ford's request). All is well now, but interestingly enough, the voltmeter is a lot more responsive than the one that was in there (Autometer said the voltmeter really works). Not saying it doesn't, but the new one actually MOVES around.

Mine moves around. Not randomly, but it's as responsive as I could want (ie. reacting instantaneously to whatever load I put on the system). Maybe your old one was functionally impaired (laymen's terms: fubar'ed)?

That's my guess TTA. I'll put in the oil sender this afternoon and see how the new oil pressure gauge works. I wasn't pleased with the look of the gauges in the box (font is smaller and not as bold), but installed they look great!

When (not IF) I do this mod, I'll be swapping the gauge faces as described elsewhere on this site.

I left off the colored rubber light bulb covers inside the guage on my new oil & volt guages. Since the font dis not match, I'd rather have them looking a little brighter and aftermarket anyway. Also, great time to splice in a hardwired radar detector while you have that bastage of a guage pod out.

Oil sender installed, plugged in, and just like magic, I have fully functional gauges! Amazing! The Lincoln guys suggested I send the bill to L/M with a complaint for false advertising.

No to both counts. Ford has been doing this for years. Both my '96 and '99 Cobra's were the same. If you want an oil pressure gauge that works as it's intended, you'll have to do it yourself. Not that big a deal as others have done it already.

One more question...does AUTO METER make "working" models similar to those in my MM??
I would prefer the OEM look if replaced.
If you do a search on here, the part numbers should pop up. They apparently look a little different as far as text (and possibly light intensity?) but someone else on here posted an amazing and detailed account of how to pirate the original gage face and put it on the replacement gage, with great pictures to boot!!
That's the approach I'll be taking in a few weeks when I do this 'mod'. (one should really call it a 'fix', not a mod)

deerejoe:
The correct AutoMeter part number is 4327...that's for the gauge and sender...you MUST replace them both for this mod (fix) to work...it looks "almost" identical to the original...only another Marauder connoisseur would notice...

My stock volt meter "moves" as much as a volt meter should. If it fluctuated a lot i'd be concerned.
Ford isn't the only manufacturer to use "oil pressure" guages like the on in the Marauder

I replaced both gauges last week and couldn't be happier. The ONLY difference is that these gauges have lighter and smaller font. Otherwise, they look exactly like the OEM. And BTW, for whatever reason, my new voltmeter actually responds to the use of various accessories ................... I'm not going to try to replace the faces on these gauges as the difference isn't that big a deal for me, and in fact since they are so far removed from the others, it just doesn't matter. IMHO
