After reading about everyone else's squeaks, hums, rattles, I was thinking I'd gotten off easy.

But ... I have a regular loud "snap" that seems to come from the top of the windshield on the driver's side. The sound seems to happen just once within a few minutes beginning to drive the car. I can't be sure yet, but it sounds like something is shifting or popping. It can't see or feel any loose molding or parts in that area.

Has anyone else heard this sound? :help:

Your suggestions or 2 cents are all welcome.

Check pillar post molding and molding all around windshield for possible tight fit and thus making noise while expanding and contracting. Remember this is plastic and while my MM doesn't have this problem,. my Grand Marquis does

I had this same thing practically from the first day I drove this car home. It was somewhat cold out at the time, and I had the heat on inside the car... I figured it was the plastic expanding/contracting from the different temperatures. It only happened from the driver's A-pillar, but further down near the cowl.

Within a few weeks the sound disappeared. I guess the car was either shifting due to its first miles, or the plastic wore itself such that it no longer rubbed. I dunno...

Has there been any significant change in temperature lately? ie. you left the car out in the hot sun for the first time ever, then hopped in and cranked up the A/C, etc?

It does get parked out in the sun. And it's been pretty hot recently. I usually run with just the windows down, but the A/C has kicked on pretty hard with the temp so high.

I'd considered that hot/cold expansion initially, but didn't think the A/C could be making that much difference so fast. Coldest air seems to come from the center of the console.

Thanks.

I'd say give it a week or two, and see if it goes away. You said you didn't feel anything loose, but I'd follow drobin's advice and look for close contact points (itch or rub points, depending on who you speak to).

If the pillar noise doesn't go away after a few weeks of normal driving, go see the dealer and ask him to flash your PCM with the latest s/w ( with all the recent PCM s/w discussions, I just had to throw that in there! :D )

Mine had a nasty creak/rattle/snap or whatever to the left of the radio, every time I hit a bump. But it went away before I could complain to the dealer about it. I guess it's part of breakin...
