Virginia has an annual safety inspection requirement. I normally hate the process. Normally, there is a long line of cars and the wait is usually more than an hour. Today was different. :D

I left the house at 9 o'clock and pulled into the station. I was next in line and the car ahead of me was already getting backed out. The MM was clean and shiney inside and out. The inspector came up and looked it over then got inside and checked it out some more. He pulled it into the inspection bay. Not 5 minutes later, I was on my way home. Painless.

I have seen the inspectors spend 20-30 minutes on some cars. The more raggedy looking the POS, the longer the inspection.

Guess I got the new car treatment or something -- at least he knew that I was taking care of the car. ;)

He did mention that "This is the first one of THESE that I've seen with the center console shifter".

Yeah, Charlie, you could order up one of those white ones and check the center console shifter delete box. :D

Too bad you don't have a shop like in my area.... there are a couple places in town where I'm well enough known that an inspection for me takes less than 3 minutes from the time I talk to the guy at the counter to when I'm handed my keys back... they drive it in the bay, honk the horn, quickly glance underneath, pop the hood, wait 15 sec, close it, then drive it out........ I'm certain they are actually checking everything too! <rollseyes>

Amazing The only inspections we have in Alberta is when you bring the car in from out of Province. I inquired about an older car a while back and the insurance at my local automotive club said that no inspection was necessary. Just give them the vin# and they will insure it.

The government doesn't inspect anything. Then again Virginia probably has 10 times the population of Alberta.
