OK. As you may know , my front glass got taken out by a hunk o' concrete from a passing truck. Bummer.
Called a local guy, could not get me a FORD replacement with the Oval and the FORD part# for 3 weeks. He ordered the Carlite replacement.
Wanting to see clearly asap, I gave into this and allowed him to order the carlite.
Called Thusday, said I'd drop the car off at 3. I was there at 2:59 waited 15 minutes and left. He called and told me his excuse. Set it up for 7:30-8 am Friday. I get there at 7:40 am. Left at 8am with my wife to go get breakfast. The MM was left at his shop, unlocked (ewwww... that was tough) but I refused to leave the keys there.
He called at 8:20, crying about no key. I told him that I'd be back there by 11. He whined some more, said he couldn't get his truck out. ( he could btw). I drove back ( sans breakfast!!) took 25 minutes. Got there and handed him the key. Asked about picking it up at 8am on Sat, that was the deal. He started hemming and hawling, so I said "Forget it!' Took the key back and left.
Called B&G Glass in Reading (800-373-7869) . Told them what I wanted. They came to my house yesterday, In an hour the shield was replaced. And guess what?
It has the FORD oval and part #! It is EXACTLY the same glass!!!!!!
Ok Part #- DW01506GBYN--$316.62
Labor ( at MY house now) $40.00
Adhesive $25.95
Deductible $50.00
Tax $22.95
Total $455.52

Yep, lesson learned.

What's the difference between Carlite and Ford glass?

But, I wanted to be sure that the glass had the ford logo and part# printed on them. The base Carlte does not have it apparently, but it would look the same otherwise.

I was down in the parking garage just now, looking over the fog/headlight issue and decided to take note of the glass markings, since I recalled having seen 'carlite' on the side window this morning when loading up the kid in the back.

The front window has the oval and Ford script, with Carlite beneath it. The 4 moveable side windows have the oval/Ford logo, and the PPG logo as well. The small immoveable rearmost side glass both indicate Carlite/Ford as in the windshield... same for the rear window. The Carlite stuff says 'solartint' or something similar, but the PPG ones have their own 'solar green' or similar name.

Interesting about the different glass markings... I wonder why.

carlite has supplied Ford glass for many years.

Rich, was all the dot shading the same as the original?

You sure have to wonder how some guys stay in business don't you. You did right in telling the first guy to forget it.

Here in Florida the insurance companies have to pay for windshield replacement...... and they can't raise your rates for it either.....

I thought it was this way in most states...... you might want to check, maybe you can get your bux back...

Dealer had to replace my windshield from day one..... they had to paint the hood (bird do do) and were too cheap to bag the car...

So the clean up guy took a rag soaked with thinner to try and get the overspray off...

He set the rag down for a few minutes at the base of the windshield and the thinner migrated up between the 2 panes along the inner plastic safety part and clouded the whole center of the windshield......

The new one says Ford and has the oval on it... I made sure to check....

Now if they will ever get done with rubbing out the rest of the car to get that overspray off...

I can continue my mission with Zaino...
