Do you have an accurate way to check this? I do and new conventional antifreeze (Prestone) out of the bottle, diluted 50/50 gives ~8.2-8.3 pH.

Question to you all:
Why wouldn't we wnat our anti-freeze 7.0 as in PH Neutral? Any reason it is slightly alkaline right out of the jug? Or do they make it that way to counteract normal acid in the engine? Just wondering.

As ethylene glycol (or any of the alternative glycols) degrades over time - due to a number of different factors, it becomes more acidic. So a reserve alkalinity is built-in.

Here is an excellent article on Coolant and it covers pH.

why do some have gold antifreeze, and some green? If I understand it correctly, the gold has greatly reduced silicates, and the green is normal extended life. why wouldnt all Marauders have the same coolant?

Interesting, that article says 9.5 - 10 is ideal. Mine is 7.5 using a test strip. Has anyone else measured their gold af?? But I'm not convinced that article includes OAT's.

The only way to know for sure is to take a fresh bottle and dip it.

I have also sent an email to Prestone.
Let's see how they respond.

Thnx Meninblk. I found another article that says 6.6 - 10.1 is good for normal af (does this includes Ford Gold??), Dexcool junk is good at 6.5 -9.0. I'll call dealer and see what high quality info I get.

Dealer says 7.2, but did not supply a range. But at least he knew that much !!!

But I'm not convinced that article includes OAT's.The Ford Gold coolant is actually BASF Glysantin, which is also sold here as Zerex G-05 and is a HOAT fluid. According to the PDS on Valvoline's web site, the pH of G-05 is spec'd as 7.5-11.0, with typical numbers around 8.
